🏛️ NYC Council Speaker Adrienne Adams

Rikers Island Oversight: Speaker Adrienne Adams issued a strong statement supporting the federal court's decision to appoint an independent official to oversee Rikers Island jails. She criticized Mayor Eric Adams' administration for failing to improve conditions, citing increased violence and humanitarian concerns.

Budget Concerns: The City Council, under her leadership, identified funding gaps in Mayor Adams' FY 2026 Executive Budget, particularly affecting CUNY programs, public housing, and transportation infrastructure.
