Update: Teen Suspect in Custody for the Murder of 13-Year-Old Sanjay Samuel

Cambria Heights, Queens, NY – September 2025 — The Southeast Queens community continues to mourn the tragic loss of 13-year-old Sanjay Samuel, who was fatally shot in the head outside a Dunkin’ Donuts in Cambria Heights while on his way to school.

After days of investigation, the NYPD confirmed that a 16-year-old suspect surrendered to police at the 105th Precinct and is now facing charges of murder and criminal possession of a weapon. Surveillance images released earlier had shown the teen suspect wearing a black hoodie, pants, and white sneakers while carrying a backpack with a “JAWS” logo.

Authorities believe the case may have been linked to gang activity, though Sanjay’s family firmly denies any ties, emphasizing that he was a joyful, loving child focused on his education and family.

Sanjay was rushed to Cohen Children’s Medical Center, where he was declared brain-dead before his family confirmed his passing. In a final act of compassion, the family announced that his organs would be donated to help save lives.

Phil Andrews Launches The
New York City Minority Chamber of
Commerce, Inc. Coming To
N.Y.C. and Beyond
SBA Award Winner Phil Andrews

By Business Advocate Phil Andrews.

As a long-time leader in New York State in the area of economic empowerment and small business development Chamber leader Phil Andrews is spearheading N.Y.C. newest chamber of commerce formation in N.Y.C. The chamber was formed under the name The New York City Minority Small Business Chamber of Commerce, Inc.

As a child growing up in Marcy Housing Development it was during that time I learned the power of community.  I was raised by My Aunt Rev. Frances Virginia Young who would become a Pastor of Grace Gospel Tabernacle, a branch of Bethel Gospel Tabernacle, now named Foundation Church NYC.

One of the things we learned from my aunt was the importance of gathering the community together to impart essential values and virtues that would empower the community. Roots were important then, as they are now!

As I ponder upon my return to my N.Y.C. roots and start gathering the community to impart wisdom in the area community building, laying the foundation through strategic planning, and economic empowerment I am inspired by all that will be done.

Community consensus entails that communication is done in such a manner that it inspires the community to work together in a spirit of harmony to reach its audacious goals.
