Upcoming Historic Commemorations

February 1, 2024, Is National Freedom Day 75th “Diamond” Anniversary
President Truman Signs the National Freedom Day Proclamation into Law, June 30, 1948.  Venita Benitez an advocate for human trafficking awareness -  modern day slavery, and she shares about the importance about June 30, 2023, that commemorates the 75th anniversary for National Freedom Day resolution!

The proclamation was signed into law on June 30, 1948, by President Harry Truman. The U.S. Congress passed by a joint resolution approved June 30, 1948 (62 Stat.1150) a bill Congress authorized the President to recognize and proclaim
the first day of February of each year as National Freedom Day in commemoration of the signing of the resolution of February 1, 1865.

“Now, Therefore, I, Harry S. Truman, President of the United States of America, do hereby designate February 1, 1949, and each succeeding February 1, as National Freedom Day; and I call upon the people of the United States to pause on that day in solemn contemplation of the glorious blessings of freedom which we humbly and thankfully enjoy.”

Juneteenth Night Market in Queens, NY: Over 1K in Attendance at Juneteenth Celebration in Southeast Queens!


Sovereign Markets and BlaQue Resource Network hosted an unforgettable Juneteenth celebration. On June 19, over 1,000 attendees gathered at the Laurelton Station LIRR, to honor Black freedom and excellence. 


The family-friendly event featured a variety of Black-owned food vendors, live music, and inspiring spoken word performances. A complimentary beer and wine garden allowed guests to relax and connect, creating an atmosphere of joy and community.
