BLACK ENTREPRENEUR REINVENTS RETAIL FOR BLACK HAIR & BEAUTY PRODUCTS

White Plains, NY  4th Ave Market has exploded onto the scene as a new Black-owned online retail platform tackling economic inequality in the Black hair care and beauty supply industry. Black people spend $2.5B annually on hair care and beauty products, yet they only own 7% of all beauty supply stores. And historically, the Black entrepreneurs who make beauty products haven't been able to get distribution in large retail stores as big brands spend money to keep them off the shelves.

4th Ave Market CEO, Salim Holder, co-founded the company, which is now the largest Black-owned online hair care and beauty supply store in the United States.

"Our goal is to create a simple shopping experience and offer easier access to a diverse inventory of the brands that Black people love. And do so at prices that are up to 30% lower than traditional retail. Thanks to our loyal customers, our sales have been organically doubling month-over-month," said Holder.

DENVER-AREA WOMEN LAUNCH DIGITAL GREEN BOOK CAMPAIGN TO HIGHLIGHT SAFE, WELCOMING BUSINESS AND TRAVEL OPPORTUNITIES FOR BLACK AMERICANS

Denver, CO Birdwatching. Barbecuing in a park. Browsing a store. Eating at a restaurant. These activities are framed as every day, fun, and enjoyable activities for most, but these same activities can also become dangerous and deadly based solely on the color of your skin.

This American reality is the impetus behind Crystal Egli and Parker McMullen-Bushman's goal of creating a Digital Green Book for Black Americans to research and patronize businesses that champion inclusivity and provide welcoming environments both when traveling and managing the business of daily life.

Originally created by Victor H. Green in 1936 as a response to the issues faced by Black travelers, The Negro Motorist Green-Book provided a guide for Black readers nationwide identifying businesses available to Black travelers in the openly segregated South, safer locations in the more covertly segregated North and information to avoid "sundown towns" or the heavy presence of the Ku Klux Klan. The end of legal segregation brought the end of publishing the Green Book with the 1966-1967 issue, but the need for resources to help guide Black Americans to welcoming and inclusive places to spend their time and money has never ended.

IN TRIBUTE TO MEN'S HEALTH

Nationwide  The shocking and tragic murder of George Floyd left the world reeling. From every point of the globe, passionate citizens - many of whom had never participated in a protest before - stood in lockstep outraged. The eight minutes and 43 seconds of a knee in the neck snuffed the life out of him. But it aroused the world and put another spotlight on the shame of police brutality leveled against black men.

Real Men Charities, Inc. is a Chicago-based nonprofit whose mission is to emphasize family wellness and creative engagement for fathers and positive male influencers. Because their focus is on African-American men, this blatant act of in-your-face murder rocked the organization.

In tribute to the month of June - designated as Men's Health Month - Real Men Charities is sharing their perspectives on the importance of men staying physically and mentally healthy. Central to achieving this nirvana is eating healthy. It is a message that resonates and yields results.

BLACK NURSE FROM CHICAGO PARTNERS WITH BLACK-OWNED BRAND TO LAUNCH HER OWN CBD STORE

Nationwide Meet Jacqueline Stokes, a Registered Nurse from Chicago who has partnered with a Black-owned brand called Healthy Place Botanicals to launch an online store with CBD products. Her web site offers a wide variety of natural products like shampoos, soaps, facial moisturizers, coffee, tea, and even weight management products - all made from CBD oils or other essential oils.

After years of dealing with chronic pain and using Over the Counter (OTC) analgesics, a friend introduced her to a natural alternative to address her pain issue. That alternative was CBD oil, which is a non-psychoactive extract from the Cannabis plant.
