Arlington, TX --  BPolished Beauty Supply, an Arlington, Texas-based beauty supplies platform and brick-and-mortar-shop that covers everything from conditioner and shampoo to protective style items such as wigs, crochet hair, and hair braids, continues to redefine industry standards as a leading Black-owned business today.

"Black women are the largest consumer of beauty products and dominate the industry in regards to dollars being spent. However, we have the least amount of ownership.

In addition for years the market has been flooded with products that have not been suitable for women of color," says Frankesha. "We deserve to have ownership in this industry and access to that same quality of beauty products, which is why I am so excited to be offering the best products right through my new beauty supply store and accompanying platform."

WINE FESTIVAL ON MARTHA'S VINEYARD SPOTLIGHTS GROWING DIVERSITY IN WINE INDUSTRY

Washington, DC -- What was initially slated to be a one-time event held on Martha's Vineyard to promote Soul of Sonoma's California wine tours, Soul of Sonoma on the Vineyard (SoSMV) has transformed into a full-fledged annual festival. Now in year two, the nearly sold-out event has become one of the most anticipated annual premium wine and epicurean classics on Martha's Vineyard.

SoSMV almost exclusively features African American-owned or distributed wine brands. Unlike similar wine festivals, SoSMV provides its nearly 300 guests the opportunity to meet and interact with winemakers, many of whom travel from the West Coast and beyond to attend the event.

The 2019 theme, La Vie en Rose, was spawned from the observation by Soul of Sonoma's founder, that people were going crazy for rosé.

"Rosé is still on trend, and even wine experts are digging a bit deeper in their reviews and acknowledging that rosé can exhibit some of the same taste complexities as well-made reds and whites," says Patrice Davenport, founder of Soul of Sonoma. "This is an exciting time for wine, because the invigorated interest in rosé has given connoisseurs and the broader industry a new horizon to explore."

NEW CHILDREN'S BOOK, "GABE & HIS GREEN THUMB," IS A MUST-READ FOR YOUNG BLACK BOYS

Washington, DC -- David Miller knows only eighteen percent of black fourth graders read proficiently. Likewise, he's aware that it's increasingly difficult to find quality children's books by authors of color.

Miller is counting on his newest work, Gabe & His Green Thumb, to be the first of many children's books to buck those trends.
A husband, father of three, writer and social entrepreneur, Miller has published a fresh, new children's book about Gabe Gresham, a typical kid who loves reading comic books and playing with his friends after school.

In this delightful tale, one day Gabe's life is changed forever while he's working in his family's garden.  Written for second graders and up, Gabe & His Green Thumb is about a boy who discovers the power of growing food.

The sensational book, complete with bright, bold illustrations, takes kids on Gabe's journey as he transforms from a shy kid to an overnight celebrity because of his ability to raise championship-sized vegetables.

SOUTH CENTRAL LA AUTHOR RELEASES NEW BOOK CALLED "CEEJUS SPEAKS" FEATURING ESSAYS ABOUT LIFE, HUMOR, POWER AND FAMILY

Nationwide -- Ceejus Speaks: Hey God, Come Get Your Boy! is what happens when a boy born in the roughest hoods of South Central LA learns that intelligence can't be bound by hoods and that an ex-drug dealing hood cat can become a true wordsmith and intellect. All hood, all radical thinker, all compassion and all too real. Ceejus Speaks by Clifford Jordan is the culmination of a voice finding its freedom and speaking it clearly.

Ceejus Speaks is basically a book of essays about life, humor, power, family, and subjective nonsense. Overall, it's about finding your unique path in this life.

The author took a unique path to get to that point, but it's a path worth following. To quote the book and author. "I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that I am not even close to being completely sane, nor are most of the people I know. We are all short a few pieces of a complete Lego set. So the game now becomes how well can we play with the pieces we have left."

Conference Educates Black Families on Disaster Response

POWERFUL CONFERENCE EDUCATED BLACK FAMILIES ON DISASTER RESPONSE

Baltimore, MD --  Like hurricanes or floods, community disasters - such as police killings of unarmed Black people and lead-tainted water in Flint, Michigan - traumatize the people who directly experience the events, who witness them and those who are close to the victims. In each of these cases, Black people bear a disproportionate share of the burden.

That is why the All Healers Mental Health Alliance and the Institute of the Black World 21st Century Black Family Summit are focusing their healing efforts on manmade as well as natural disasters impacting Black communities.  Since Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the All Healers Mental Health Alliance (AHMHA), a national network of mental health professionals, health advocates, first responders and faith leaders, has worked collaboratively to facilitate long-term responses to the mental health needs of survivors in underserved communities affected by natural disasters, manmade disasters, and other traumatic events.

They have found that underserved communities carry a heavy burden of disadvantage prior to disasters which makes them even more vulnerable to the devastating impact of disasters in the form of being unable to relocate, rebuild, or regroup after a disastrous event. In addition, many of these communities, both urban and rural, are segregated by race resulting in communities of color being overlooked by emergency services and resources during disasters and/or receiving disparate treatment.

RAPTORS AND DURANT; WISHFUL THINKING AND NBA FALLOUT

Nationwide -- The drama, the circumstance, and the fallout surrounding Durant's - should he or should he not have played in game 5 is hot on the pundits' program topic list of discussion. Here is my rebuttal to many of the arguments being played out: it is the competitive nature of any athlete to compete so the rationale to get into the game - as a player - is not surprising; however, the denial of real economic, physical, and long term risk is not given it's due diligence.

We know corporations are enamored and oriented toward both the end game and the bottom line that the human element (Durant's Achilles) got lost in the decision-making to play, to go, or to stay put. Yet the decision making process almost always has as a determinant: a risk assessment undergirded and underwritten by either Lloyds of London or the Lord of wish-full thinking.

Durant, the Warriors, and the NBA were fully engaged in wishful thinking, rationalization, denial, and a win at all cost mentality. But was a one point win, an Achilles rupture, millions of lost dollars, and a career worth it? I don't think so! The problem is the Warriors thought of their Achilles Heel and not Durant's... their economic return if he played and not his possible re-injury.
