Phil Andrews Launches The
New York City Minority Chamber of
Commerce, Inc. Coming To
N.Y.C. and Beyond
SBA Award Winner Phil Andrews

By Business Advocate Phil Andrews.

As a long-time leader in New York State in the area of economic empowerment and small business development Chamber leader Phil Andrews is spearheading N.Y.C. newest chamber of commerce formation in N.Y.C. The chamber was formed under the name The New York City Minority Small Business Chamber of Commerce, Inc.

As a child growing up in Marcy Housing Development it was during that time I learned the power of community.  I was raised by My Aunt Rev. Frances Virginia Young who would become a Pastor of Grace Gospel Tabernacle, a branch of Bethel Gospel Tabernacle, now named Foundation Church NYC.

One of the things we learned from my aunt was the importance of gathering the community together to impart essential values and virtues that would empower the community. Roots were important then, as they are now!

As I ponder upon my return to my N.Y.C. roots and start gathering the community to impart wisdom in the area community building, laying the foundation through strategic planning, and economic empowerment I am inspired by all that will be done.

Community consensus entails that communication is done in such a manner that it inspires the community to work together in a spirit of harmony to reach its audacious goals.

While there are brilliant persons on the Autism Spectrum celebrated today, very little media stories focus on people, especially women of color. Our co-publisher's new bio-pic "nZinga's Spectrum In 3D," is a moving and inspirational documentary on how a young Black woman RISES to overcome her challenges.

nZinga Austin is also the Co-publisher of Our Black News Scoop and Southeast Queens Scoop.  The documentary of about 1/2 hr long is getting rave reviews.

Ideas are not only sources of pleasure, but are sources of power. I owe a special tribute to my high school English teacher Mrs. Woopie “She told me I had an uncanny sense of ability to write, then said read everything to A to Z and I would be a great writer.” I listened!

Who would think that a young man from Marcy Housing Development would go on to be the President on New York State's largest African American Chamber of Commerce the Long Island African American Chamber of Commerce, Inc., Founding President of the 100 Black Men of Eastern New York, Inc., African American Small Business Foundation, Inc., and Founding President of The New York City Minority Small Business Chamber of Commerce, Inc.

Dr. Maulana Karenga founder of Kwanzaa is known for this quote "who am I, and I really who I think I am, and am I all I ought to be."

As individuals and, as a community we must also ask ourselves if we living up to our fullest potential through meditation and retrospection.

New York City has one of the highest concentrations of African Americans in the country. It stands to reason if highly capable leaders in the areas of economic mobility, small business development, and community development return to its roots the community can be revitalized and spur a new movement for economic development creating prosperity for all!

As the 2019 Small Business Champion for the New York Metro District of the United States Small Business Administration I am delighted to be afforded the opportunity to return to the fertile ground that helped to develop me into the person I am today.
