When we don’t have clarity, people make decisions for us—and often not in our child’s best interest.
Think about it:
- A builder can’t build without a blueprint.
- Uber can’t take you anywhere without a destination.
- And the world—though often dismissive, mean, and ableist—also has people in positions who want to help. But they can’t if we don’t know where we’re going.

While there are brilliant persons on the Autism Spectrum celebrated today, very little media stories focus on people, especially women of color. Our co-publisher's new bio-pic "nZinga's Spectrum In 3D," is a moving and inspirational documentary on how a young Black woman RISES to overcome her challenges.

As parents of children with autism, our clarity becomes the blueprint for everyone else in the room: doctors, schools, elected officials, even extended family.
3 Steps to Clarity
1. Define the Destination
❌ Vague: “I just want him to do well in school.”
✅ Clear: “I want him to receive 1:1 reading support three times a week so he can move up a level by June.”
2. Write It Down
❌ Vague: “He’s been acting different.”
✅ Clear: “He’s been having meltdowns three times a day around mealtimes for the past two weeks.”
3. Communicate with Confidence
❌ Vague: “We need more support for special education.”
✅ Clear: “In District 28, there are over 2,000 students in D75 programs, yet only 40% of our buses have working GPS and cameras. Families need legislation to hold bus companies accountable for safety and transparency by the next school year.”
💡 Clarity doesn’t make you pushy—it makes you purposeful. Without it, people will guess your child’s needs. With it, you become the architect of your child’s future.
👨🏾👩🏾👧🏾👦 My Mission I’m a father of six, two on the spectrum, and I started I Am DAD to help families like mine get to the better side of the spectrum—where independence, hope, and progress live. At the same time, I’m on a mission to help the world unlearn ableism and relearn how we can thrive better together.
