MEET THE 94TH BLACK WOMAN TO HAVE RAISED $1M IN VENTURE CAPITAL FOR HER STARTUP

Janice Omadeke, founder and CEO of an Austin, Texas-based tech startup called The Mentor Method, has raised $1.4 million in seed funding to galvanize workplace inclusion and equity by reshaping mentorship experiences in support of diverse, rising talent. As of December 2020, only 93 other Black women have raised $1 million or more in venture capital.

Every company committing to social justice needs to include mentorship as a part of their action plan. Mentorship is a proven way to propel workplace inclusion and equity, but the process of finding a high-quality mentor has historically been inequitable.

Most people want a mentor, but fewer than 40 percent of people find one. Multi-talented Musical Prodigy Gina Williams Works Creatively To Releash 5 Albums This Year In Different Genres

Gina Williams, is quietly shattering barriers of how things “should be”.  I caught up with the multitalented singer and pianist who diversely sings and performs in 5 different musical forms.  Williams, a product of striving Jamaican roots by way of a challenging Canadian upbringing - has a fascinating story to tell!

The singer, pianist, songwriter, and composer released a choral and orchestral album called “Olympiad” and performed with 4 choirs and 2 orchestras on Ukrainian National Television in 2019.

This year she is releasing 5 albums - Each in a different genre: EDM, Caribbean, Gospel, Classical, and Rock.

The multi genre musician was born to Jamaican parents in the prairies of Alberta.

Growing up with racism and prejudice, she spent most of her years hiding her gift of music - the ability to hear finished music in her head because somehow she believed “people like her shouldn’t be the one with “that kind of a gift.” Decades later, she finally accepts herself and her attraction to anyone unconventional.

Editorial: On Why Woke Folk Should Vote

I may not get you to change your mind but I don't accept people like Dr. Boyce or anybody else coming off like Blacks who vote are stupid or just settling for the the less of 2 evils.

I'm voting because I pay taxes especially locally, I want more government contracts locally to give Black businesses viable contracts to then build wealth, hire more Black people in the US, and develop economic institutions.

Then take that money and invest in developing markets. I vote because it could mean millions of Black people having health care, jobs, and getting access to capital.

The problem for me is Blacks pay a good deal of taxes.  On 1.3 trillion in yearly collective revenue we are paying some where in the neighborhood of $250 billion to $300 billion dollars in taxes a year.  If we don't vote that is de facto self imposed taxation without representation.

This guide covers information on Medicare, Medicaid, and mental health services. While this book can be used for any age group, it is geared toward the senior citizen population and adults currently on disability that receive Medicaid services.

FIRST NATIONAL TELETHON FOR BLACK MATERNAL HEALTH TO CAPTURE BLACK BIRTH EXPERIENCES — CELEBRITIES, INFLUENCERS TO ANSWER PHONES ON JUNE 25TH

On Friday, June 25th, influencers, celebrities, and advocates will answer calls to 800-450-IRTH from noon to 8pm for the first national telethon to capture Black birthing and pediatric experiences of care. Expecting and new parents of color who have given birth in the past two years are invited to call 855-450-IRTH and leave a review of their Ob/Gyn, birthing hospital or pediatrician appointments as part of a nationwide effort to create public accountability in the medical system for Black maternal and infant care.

Actress Angela Lewis of Snowfall on FX, award-winning civil rights attorney and talk show host Areva Martin Esq., Charles Johnson of 4Kira4Moms, celebrity doula and founder of MamaGlow, Latham Thomas, and health and wellness guru, Coach Gessie, are among the over 30 celebrity and influencer guests donating time to take calls for the cause.

Comrie, Carroll Pass Legislation To Shed Light On MTA Performance Data

           

Albany, NY—The New York State Senate and Assembly Tuesday advanced legislation that would enact the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Open Data Act. The bills, S4625A by State Senator Leroy Comrie and A1442B by Assembly Member Robert Carroll, which passed both houses of the legislature unanimously, would direct the MTA to release all of its public data, including information regarding its budget, finances, ridership, routes, and service, in open data formats on the state’s open data portal, http://data.ny.gov, and on its own website.

“Streamlined access to critical data on subway, bus, and commuter rail performance will go a long way in restoring the public’s trust and confidence in the MTA,” said Senator Leroy Comrie. “Our legislation is an important step in the direction of enhanced accountability and transparency, so I thank Assembly Member Carroll for championing this issue in the Assembly as well as the many advocacy organizations that helped us advance the MTA Open Data Act.”

“Anyone who rides the bus or subway regularly is well aware of the issues facing the MTA and its ability to run our buses and subways effectively,” said Assemblymember Robert Carroll. “With limited publicly available and accessible data, it is difficult for the largest transportation system in the United States to maintain credibility in the eyes of the people it serves. Requiring increased transparency will raise faith in the MTA and ensure that it is more responsive to the needs of New Yorkers.”

Complete Girlz Virtual Youth Empowerment Symposium And Awards Presents...

"Succeeding Against The Odds Panel"

Complete Girlz Inc., a mentoring, support, and empowerment group for girls and young women is honoring outstanding young girls and ladies while gearing up for its virtual award symposium.  On June 19th they will stream their live "Complete Girlz Virtual Youth Empowerment Symposium and Awards," hosted by highly regarded Aleigha Butler.

The organization teaches young women to speak, create financial viability and wealth, run businesses, and helps build their self esteem among other wellness skills for teenage young women and girls.  Complete Girlz was started and lead by Founder Earlene A. Lezama-Taylor, a visionary in helping girls and young women in Southeast and Jamaica Queens.

Earlene has an extensive background in business, academics, and also community/church advocacy for girls and young women.  The Board and staff of Complete Girlz boasts a distinguished mix of business professionals.  This years theme "Succeeding Against The Odds," is a very provocative one and promises to feature an inspiring and empowering panel!
