PPP Deadline Extended Two Months … or Until the Funds Run Out

On March 24 the Senate voted 92 to 7 to extend the application deadline for the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) from March 31 to May 31. Passage of the PPP extension came nearly one week after the House approved the bill, which now needs President Joe Biden’s signature to officially become law. In addition, pushing back the deadline gives the Small Business Administration (SBA) until June 30 to process loans.

While the extension gives borrowers a reprieve, they shouldn’t delay in getting their applications in. The Economic Aid Act extended the authority to make PPP loans with an additional $284 billion in subsidy and modified rules for PPP loan eligibility and forgiveness. In addition, the American Rescue Plan Act provided an additional $7.25 billion in subsidy. In the 2021 rounds of PPP, as of March 21, the SBA has approved 3.1 million loans totaling $195.7 billion in loans with approximately $79 billion left and interest in the program isn’t slowing down. As a result, the program could run out of funding early if application approvals continue at their current rate.

“The extension of the PPP loan deadline to May 31, 2021 will serve as a lifeline for small business owners; as it was virtually impossible for banks to process all loans due to immense number of applicants. We are encouraging small business owners to complete their applications in a timely manner,” says Phil Andrews, President, Long Island African American Chamber of Commerce, Inc. (www.liaacc.org) – New York State’s largest African American Chamber and New York District Office of the United States of America 2019 Small Business Champion for 14 counties in Downstate, New York which includes New York City, Long Island and the counties of Duchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster and Westchester.

Alayna Khan Receives Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation Youth Grant to Fight Childhood Hunger on Global Youth Service Day 2021

Jamaica, Queens – Alayna Khan, a 7th grade student of Scholars Academy, community activist and Baisley Pond Park Block Association junior member since 2014 from Jamaica, Queens has been awarded a Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation Youth Grant through Youth Service America (YSA).  The grant will support Khan in leading a community service project that addresses the issue of childhood hunger.

In 2019, 34 million people lived in poverty in America.  As a result of the coronavirus pandemic, 1 in 6 people (more than 50 million people), including 1 in 4 children (approximately 17 million children) in the United States are experiencing food insecurity in 2021. A 2019 report by the Food Bank for New York City, found that Community District 12, which represents Hollis, Jamaica, and St. Albans, has the highest levels of food insecurity. This is a problem that can be solved, and young people are a part of the solution. Youth-led activities will take place on Global Youth Service Day, April 23-25, 2021.

“My goal is to assemble a volunteer team to fundraise at least $500 for the Bethel Gospel Church food pantry. This project is critical because no child should have to worry about where their next meal is coming from,” said Khan, “I would like to thank Sodexo for giving me this amazing opportunity to make an impact in my community.”

“HEAVEN’S MESSENGER” FAITH-BASED FILM STARRING HOME ALONE ACTOR JOHN HEARD, ENDURES WITH HIDDEN MESSAGES OF ITS OWN

New York, NY — “Heaven’s Messenger”, Produced by Open Communications Inc., is a powerful faith-based film starring “Home Alone” and late actor John Heard, has been recently remastered and re-edited for the American, faith-based market. According to the film’s director Russell Emanuel, the film was recut in order to better highlight the film’s prescient and powerful faith-based message. Yet the film, shot in parts of New York and California, is now contending with “hidden” messages of its very own.

The film has been endorsed by the Dove Foundation, for audiences above twelve years old. According to producer and co-star Howard Nash, the cast never really understood the film’s powerful message of faith until the re-edit was completed in February. Nash went to school near Southeast Queens, New York.

According to Nash, “the film makes it clear: God does have a plan for us. And, like the Bible says, it makes clear that God speaks to us, whenever we want to know his will for our lives”.

Yet the film, or rather its team, must now grapple with a few “hidden” messages of its own. The film was initially turned down for a Dove Foundation rating after the re-edit was completed.
