FIRST BLACK WOMAN-OWNED NON-EMERGENCY TRANSPORTATION COMPANY IN NEW YORK GIVING BACK WITH THANKSGIVING CELEBRATION

Long Island, NY -- MedSafe Transport, Inc. is kicking off the holiday season with their second annual Thanksgiving Charity Feast, Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at noon. Taking place in Copiague, New York, over 150 people will enjoy a delicious meal and joyful fellowship.

The event is sponsored by MedSafe founder and CEO, Qadirah Rasheed, who values her community and considers her clients as family.  "There's nothing better than having family.

And there's no better time than Thanksgiving to make our clientele be a part of the MedSafe family, not only during this holiday season, but all year long," she said.

MedSafe Transport provides transportation to Medicaid recipients throughout the state of New York.

The majority of Rasheed's clients battle mental health issues, substance abuse and reside in group homes. Many also face homelessness and lack essential resources and support.

Official Statement From Sean 'Diddy' Combs Regarding The Comcast / Byron Allen U.S. Supreme Court Case

NEW YORK, Nov. 21, 2019 -- My name and my network, REVOLT, have been mentioned recently by Comcast in reference to the Comcast/Byron Allen US Supreme Court case as an example of Comcast's inclusive practices with respect to African American owned cable networks. While it is true that we are in business with Comcast, it is not accurate to use my name or my network as an example of inclusion. I do not want my name to be used inaccurately so I must speak my truth.

I also want to make clear that this case is now about much more than cable distribution. It's about the civil rights of millions of African Americans and other minorities.

First, it's important that people really understand what's at stake. In its efforts to get the lawsuit filed by Byron Allen dismissed, Comcast has taken a legal approach that could weaken fundamental civil rights protections. I have a problem with this.

The Civil Rights Act of 1866 section 1981 was designed to ensure Black people are able to do business in this country and not be denied because of race. Comcast is arguing that this law only applies if racial discrimination is the only factor that leads to a refusal to do business, which would be extremely hard to prove.

If they are successful, it will become much harder for any victim of discrimination to seek justice in court. By taking this stance in the Supreme Court, Comcast has put its legal tactics ahead of the rights of millions of Americans to be heard. This is not OK.

Senator Sanders Calls on Governor and Mayor to Stop Gun Violence in Southeast Queens

In light of recent incidents of gun violence in Southeast Queens, Senator James Sanders Jr. (D-Rochdale Village, Far Rockaway) has joined his colleagues in government and sent a letter to Governor Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Bill deBlasio, calling on them to increase preventative resources to help end the rash of shootings.

“We have lost too many lives, and especially young lives, to gun violence, and the time to take action is now,” Sanders said. “We can no longer sit on the sidelines and call for peace, we need to put into place a strategic plan consisting of a cohesive group of resources that will make a real difference in stopping these crimes.”

These steps include re-opening local community centers and extending their hours; bolstering after school program partnerships with smaller community-based organizations; expanding Beacon programs; increasing funding for trauma centers and opening additional centers in Southern Queens; developing and funding anti-violence curriculum in NYC schools; and creating a universal youth employment and education program.

Meeks, Brown, and Members of Congress Demand Bank Regulators Strengthen, Not Weaken the Community Reinvestment Act

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH), ranking member of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee and Congressman Gregory Meeks (D-NY), Chairman of the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Consumer Protection and Financial Institutions, along with 27 members of Congress sent a letter to the heads of the Federal Reserve, OCC and FDIC demanding that the three banking agencies not issue a proposed rule unless it has the support of the community development and civil rights groups that represent the communities the Community Reinvestment Act was designed to serve.

“Policies that restrict access to credit and banking, such as those that result in redlining, have perpetuated a long legacy of discrimination and disinvestment in America, and held back impoverished minority communities,” wrote the members. “Given this history, any changes to the CRA must hold lenders accountable for meeting the local credit and investment needs of LMI communities where the lender has branches or other facilities while appropriately considering changes in our banking system.”

"SHOP BLACK WEEK" CAMPAIGN TO BOOST SUPPORT FOR BLACK-OWNED BUSINESSES WILL BE NOVEMBER 22 TO 29

Nationwide -- As consumers across the U.S. gear up for holiday deals on sales merchandise, this Black Friday, a coalition urges buyers to make it a Shop Black Week. More than 100 groups have designated November 22 to 29 as Shop Black Week, a time of supporting Black-owned businesses by purchasing products, goods, or services from Black entrepreneurs.

The Shop Black Week campaign is a nationwide campaign that simply asks every American to support Black-owned businesses in November. Participating entities include organizations, Online-social groups and publications that have made the commitment to help spread the word with their social media accounts.
