🏛️ NYC Council Speaker Adrienne Adams

Rikers Island Oversight: Speaker Adrienne Adams issued a strong statement supporting the federal court's decision to appoint an independent official to oversee Rikers Island jails. She criticized Mayor Eric Adams' administration for failing to improve conditions, citing increased violence and humanitarian concerns.

Budget Concerns: The City Council, under her leadership, identified funding gaps in Mayor Adams' FY 2026 Executive Budget, particularly affecting CUNY programs, public housing, and transportation infrastructure.

🏙️ Mayor Eric Adams

Bodega Safety Initiative: In response to increased violence at delis, the city allocated $1.6 million to install panic buttons in 500 bodegas, enhancing safety measures for workers and customers. New York Post

Legal Scrutiny: Unsealed court documents revealed a federal corruption investigation into Adams, focusing on alleged illegal campaign contributions and perks during his tenure as Brooklyn borough president. The case was dropped in February 2025, sparking controversy. AP News

Barrett, Comrie Urge Governor Hochul to Sign Legislation Restoring Consumer Advocate to State Energy Planning Board

Assemblymember Didi Barrett (D-Dutchess/Columbia) and Senator Leroy Comrie (D-Queens) are urging Governor Kathy Hochul to sign, A.4712/S.2460, legislation they sponsored which would add a representative from the Utility Intervention Unit to the New York State Energy Planning Board, ensuring that consumers have a voice in the energy planning process. The Energy Planning Board recently released the 2025 Draft Energy Plan for public comment through October 6th.

“I believe it is critical that this legislation be signed before the 2025 Energy Plan is adopted, as the next Energy Plan will not be released until 2040,” said Assemblymember Didi Barrett, Chair of the Assembly Energy Committee. “As the only legislator currently serving on the State Energy Planning Board, I see a need for more consumer voices involved in shaping New York’s energy future. Including a consumer advocate will ensure that affordability, equity, and transparency are at the core of our clean energy transition, and I strongly encourage Governor Hochul to sign this legislation while the planning process is underway to give New Yorkers a seat at the table.

Healing Postpartum Wounds and
Helping To Reduce The
Burden of Care Givers

Postpartum Wound Care

Caesarean Sections have increased drastically in the last 30 years, from 7% in 1990 to over 21% of all worldwide births today. With the increase in surgical births, there's the increase for Postpartum wound care.

Infection at the incision site and opening of the incision exposing the tissue (dehiscence) are complications that can occur.

It's important to:

• Keep area around the incision clean and dry
• Do not put on any creams, lotions or perfumes on the incision.
• Perform hand hygiene often.
• Follow activity restrictions as ordered by the doctor

Call your doctor if you have increased pain, fever or chills or pus draining from site.

Use a pillow and hold it to the site when sneezing or coughing. This is called Splinting.

This time should be spent healing and bonding with your Newborn, let's do our best and partner with your health professional to prevent infections.

A Surgical wound that doesn't heal may open or pull apart (wound dehiscence), Exposing internal tissues or organs.

Legislative Victories that
Protect Consumers and
Advance Economic Equity

Albany, NY —  Senator James Sanders Jr. is proud to announce that a number of his bills — S2680, S3072, S3178A, S4153A, S4157, S4728A, S6315, S8292, S8299, and S8357 — have successfully passed both houses of the New York State Legislature, representing major wins in the fight for economic fairness, consumer protection, and future-focused governance.

These bills address a wide range of challenges facing everyday New Yorkers , from financial discrimination and housing injustice to consumer protection and emerging technology. Notably, S2680, which requires the reporting of private education debt, has already been signed into law by the Governor and is currently in effect. This legislation expands transparency to student lending practices, helping borrowers and their families make more informed financial decisions.

Other legislation passed this session includes a bill banning the use of consumer credit history in employment decisions, removing a common and harmful barrier for those rebuilding after financial hardship. Another ensures that businesses cannot refuse cash payments, protecting access for unbanked and underbanked residents who rely on physical currency.

CAMBER PROPERTY GROUP & BOWERY RESIDENTS’ COMMITTEE DEDICATE $100 MILLION ROBERT C. WOOD APARTMENTS - PERMANENTLY AFFORDABLE HOUSING PROJECT IN FAR ROCKAWAY

BRC grows its capacity as a housing developer, owner, and manager

Camber continues to build momentum across the borough

Bowery Residents’ Committee (BRC), Camber Property Group, and the NYC Department of Social Services (DSS) celebrated the opening of Robert C. Wood Apartments, a $100 million, eight-story building located in Far Rockaway, Queens. The development features 147 new permanently affordable apartments, and includes the Wanda Patterson Women’s Residence, a 100-bed shelter reserved for single women. 

The project replaces three vacant buildings that were acquired by Camber and BRC in April 2022. The residential side of the building contains 125 studios, 9 one-bedroom, and 13 two-bedroom apartments. Of the studios, 88 units are supportive housing reserved for formerly homeless individuals. All apartments are affordable to households earning between 30 and 60 percent of the Area Median Income (AMI). 

“The Robert C. Wood Apartments project is more than just an affordable housing project, it is an innovative new community and home for New Yorkers who need it the most,” said Rick Gropper, Founding Principal at Camber Property Group. “Thanks to our partnership with BRC, we are able to provide much-needed affordable housing as well as shelter space and community services focused on recovery. We look forward to being a fixture in this community for decades to come.”

“This tremendous project marks another important step in our ongoing efforts to transform the shelter system and aggressively expand the creation of supportive housing in New York City,” said Department of Social Services Commissioner Molly Wasow Park. “With the opening of this site, we look forward to building on our long-standing partnership with BRC which has helped countless individuals get back on their feet and secure long-term housing stability. To see the realization of our investments in innovative models that continue to raise the bar is incredibly gratifying and reinforces our commitment to embracing bold ideas that reimagine the city’s housing ecosystem for vulnerable New Yorkers.”
