Yesterday CUNY celebrated the more than 16,500 New Yorkers statewide who have applied to Governor Hochul's landmark free community college program for adults in high-demand fields through CUNY and SUNY. There’s still time to enroll for Fall 2025 at Queensborough.

If you’re an adult learner in New York, this could be your moment to go to college for free in high-demand fields through CUNY Reconnect. Tuition, fees, books, and supplies are covered (after applicable financial aid), along with academic and career support to help you succeed.

Free Community College for Adult Learners in New York—Now Reaching Queens

Governor Kathy Hochul’s landmark Reconnect initiative is now open to adult New Yorkers (ages 25–55, no prior degree), offering free associate degrees in high‑demand fields at both CUNY and SUNY community colleges starting Fall 2025. The program covers tuition, fees, books, and supplies—after applicable financial aid is applied—empowering working adults to advance their careers without the burden of cost. Governor Kathy Hochul

Statewide interest is surging: over 16,500 New Yorkers have already applied—about 7,000 through CUNY and 9,000 via SUNY—as of mid‑August 2025. Governor Kathy Hochul


Queens-Centric Spotlight: CUNY Reconnect Through QCC (and Beyond)

Queensborough Community College (QCC)

At QCC, adult learners meeting program criteria—ages 25–55, NYS residents, no previous degree, and enrolled full‑ or part‑time in a high‑demand associate program—can pursue a tuition‑free degree. Eligible programs include:

  • Architectural Technology AAS

  • Biotechnology AS

  • Computer Engineering Technology AAS

  • Computer Information Systems AS

  • Computer Science AS

  • Computer Science and Information Security AS

  • Cybersecurity AAS

  • Digital Art and Design AS
