The Community Needs Your Insight To Help Steer Billions In JFK Upgrades

As I shared in the last post, a major aspect of the JFK Redevelopment Project is a thirty percent (30%) utilization of Minority Women Business Enterprises (MWBEs.) More specifically, there will be an emphasis on providing contract opportunities to local business owners of Southeast Queens.

Although, the Port Authority is in the embryonic stage of identifying services that can be provided  to the Southeast Queens small business community, an overview of some of the initiatives the Port Authority would like to implement was provided during the Community meetings. 

What do you need?

The MWBE Coalition Group of the Queens Connection Team has developed a survey to identify who are the small businesses in the community and what are the key challenges they are facing.  We would like to hear from you in regards to what you need to start and grow your business. 

You are a stakeholder.

The goal of the survey is to give you a platform to have your voices heard.  A major component of a true partnership with the Port Authority is for them to hear what the needs of the community are.  We DO NOT want the Port Authority to develop and implement initiatives without input from the people they are supposed to be helping. 

You are also welcome to come to a MWBE Coalition meeting to provide input as well. Our next meeting is Monday, August 20th. Start time is 6:30pm. Our meetings are held at Greater Springfield Community Church which is located at 177-06 129th Avenue, Jamaica, NY  11434...

Some of the largest Black, women, and minority companies in the world became successful from getting contracts with national, state, and local governments.  For instance the largest Black company in the US: Worldwide Technologies, is a multibillion dollar privately held company.  It became a big business largely due to getting contracts with various levels of the government.

Blacks, women, and minorities are levied hundreds of billions of dollars in taxes a year.  Therefore, it is only fair that the government also provide fair opportunities for businesses of Blacks, women, and minority citizens.  Also in Southeast Queens there will be a $10 Billion dollar investment in JFK International Airport.

We are happy that NYS Senator James Sanders Jr. is stepping up to help Southeast Queens residents who are women, Blacks, or other ethnic minorities get a fair shot at winning lucrative government contracts.  If you are a Black, women, Latino, or other ethnic minority entrepreneur you owe it to yourself to learn about the competitive bidding and government contracting or procurement process at this event.
