New York Roots Set to
Be Inducted into
Who’s Who in America
New York, New York — Global Prostate Cancer Advocate and award-winning actor Kevin Byrd, who proudly traces his roots to New York, is set to be inducted into the Marquis Who’s Who in America 77th Edition on May 1, 2025. Who’s Who in America is a prestigious publication by Marquis Who’s Who, a respected publisher of biographical directories that has chronicled notable individuals since 1898.
Byrd, who also serves as President of the Brown Byrd Foundation, Inc., is being honored for his lifelong commitment to prostate cancer awareness and advocacy. His induction into Who’s Who in America marks the culmination of decades of work dedicated to promoting early detection and screening for prostate cancer—work that began in his teenage years following his grandfather’s diagnosis.
Although Byrd’s impact is global, his efforts have had a lasting influence on local communities, including the Village of Hempstead, Nassau County, and Suffolk County. In partnership with the 100 Black Men organization, he helped bring a mobile prostate cancer screening unit to the Village of Hempstead, expanding access to critical health services.
Byrd has graced the cover of New Health Magazine, a Long Island-based publication by Gloria Gantt, on multiple occasions, highlighting his global advocacy through the Brown Byrd Foundation, Inc.
He has served as the Health Care Chairman for both the 100 Black Men and the Long Island African American Chamber of Commerce, Inc. (LIAACC), New York State’s largest African American Chamber of Commerce. His advocacy earned him a spotlight on Verizon Fios 1 News in a special segment titled "Heroes on Long Island."

Throughout his journey, Byrd has consistently elevated his message on local, regional, national, and international stages, inspiring others to pursue their dreams and make a meaningful impact. His story reflects not just professional success, but a deeply personal mission to change lives.
Nationally, Byrd is widely known for his portrayal of Lt. John R. Fox in the 2006 History Channel/HBO film Honor Deferred, produced by Al Roker and starring Samuel L. Jackson and Bernie Mac. The film tells the story of the WWII hero who posthumously received the Congressional Medal of Honor. The film earned an Emmy/NAMIC Vision Award nomination and received critical acclaim. In 2008, Hasbro honored the legacy of Lt. Fox with a G.I. Joe action figure.
In recognition of his contributions, the Common Council of Utica, New York, designated an honorary street named “Brown Byrd Lane.” The legislation was sponsored by a coalition of council members. During Black History Month, Kevin Byrd’s advocacy was entered into the Congressional Record by Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke of Brooklyn, N.Y. He was also honored with the Health Care Heroes Award by Long Island Business News for his work with the 100 Black Men of America, Inc.
A special exhibit titled History Maker: A Salute to Contemporary African Americans at the Oneida County History Center features Byrd’s work, and his memorabilia has been officially archived there. He holds the distinction of being the first living African American male to be honored with a statue for global advocacy in prostate cancer awareness. His efforts have led countless individuals to pursue early testing and detection, saving lives in the process.
Byrd has received over 100 proclamations and honors from mayors and government officials nationwide. As of February 2022, he is recognized as the most awarded African American male worldwide for prostate cancer advocacy.
