Senator James Sanders Historic Reparations Bill Signed into Law: New York State Charts Path to Healing and Justice

New York, NY – December 19, 2023 – In a momentous victory for advocates of racial justice, Governor Katchy Hochul today signed into law the (S.1163-A/SANDERS Same as A.7691/Solages), a groundbreaking bill sponsored by Senator Sanders that establishes the “New York State Community Commission on Reparations Remedies.” The Commission will research the harm from slavery and after slavery, including racial discrimination, in New York and recommend remedies and reparations. This legislation marks a historic turning point for the City of New York and the State of New York  and sets a powerful example for the nation to follow. 

Senator James Sanders Jr., Chair of the NY State Senate Select Majority Task Force on Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprises, and Assemblymember Michaelle C. Solages, Chair of The New York State Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic and Asian Legislative Caucus, are both Chief Sponsors of the legislation. In 2020, California created a task force to study reparations. New York is the second state to study whether to issue reparations.
                                
"This is a day that will be etched in the annals of our state's history," said Senator James Sanders, who has championed reparations for years. This commission marks a crucial step towards acknowledging that pain, understanding its present consequences, and finally taking action to build a more equitable future.

Phil Andrews, is a highly acclaimed Long Island and New York business leader on a mission critical to UPlift area Black businesses.  Awards and accolades however weren't always on the resume or bio of the driven Andrews.

Andrews, came from humble beginnings in the Marcy Projects of Brooklyn, NY.  He overcame many challenges during his life.  Phil is also a veteran.

Phil has risen to run business and community organizations that make a difference in New York.  He is considered one of the most influential leaders on Long Island, New York, winning countless awards with an impressive number of community and business organizations.

I convinced the prolific business and community leader, with deep faith roots, to do an Interview with me.  I wanted to learn more about what puts a fire in him for empowering community work.

The Queens Underground International Red Carpet Black History Festival Announces that Submissions are Now Open for the 6th Season with In-Person Dates at King Manor Museum on Saturday, February 17th and Friday and Saturday, April 12th and 13th.  One of the unique benefits of Submitting to Queens Underground is that they accept all Genres and Categories from Movie Shorts, Documentary Shorts, Music, Dance, Poetry Videos and Series Episodes.

Katrina "Kash" Nangle, is a young mogul of a woman steady on the rise to make her community more wealthy and successful.  She was born in our history making Jamaica, Queens, New York City area.

Nangle, is in the business of financial planning and legacy building.  However, Kash, is lit making her indelible mark on showcasing area Black luminaries with her elegant Black Excellence Gala.

Kash describes the Black Excellence Gala, as "uplifting and amazing - it’s all about giving people their flowers while they’re still here because a lot of the times we wait until they’re gone."  Ms. Nangle, feels "It's essential for us to see examples of success."

MARIAH LOVEMORE BECOMES THE YOUNGEST BLACK WOMAN TO FORMULATE AN ALL-NATURAL, ORGANIC HAIR GROWTH OIL
