HOST OF 'HOT MESS MILLIONAIRE' PODCAST LAUNCHES 2-DAY SUMMIT TO ADDRESS BLACK MEN AND MENTAL WELLNESS

Dr. Venus Opal Reese, who is known as the founder of the 'Black Women Millionaires Live' event series and 'Hot Mess Millionaire' podcast and TV show, is leveling up the image of Black men in America. This pioneer in relating to Black men, not as criminals, but as a mother's child or some father's boy, is future casting a tomorrow filled with Black and brown faces, who are standing tall in their humanness.

In an era where the average Black male has several incidents with the police before the age of 21, and where a Harvard study found Black Americans 3 times as likely to be shot by the boys in blue, Dr. Reese is shouting from the rooftops. The disparities and inequities have gone on since slavery, and now Dr. Reese exposes this systemic racism plaguing our African American men.

In her recent rendering "Healing with Him," Dr. Reese explains the open wounds that men of color carry, and she calls on women to help make a societal shift. These wounds are much like the scars our ancestors bore from the whipping post, but these are emotional.

"I WOKE UP A BLACK MAN" BY JAMELL CROUTHERS IS A CONTROVERSIAL BOOK THAT TACKLES RACE IN AMERICA

Prose writer and author Jamell Crouthers has written I Woke Up a Black Man, his most profound book that tackles race in America. It's a fictional story from the perspective of a white man who wakes up a Black man.

Jamell writes a book that speaks on racism in America and by utilizing role reversal, he’s able to put Eric (a white man) into his best friend Warren’s shoes (a Black man). This story delves deep into the N word, Black culture, how the police treat Black men, and how racism plays a role in how Black men operate and conduct themselves in society.

The book cover created by Jamell was the most important component to this story. He says, “The goal is to get reader’s attention right away, the book cover has symbolism to it and the quote at the top was the icing on the cake.”

NYC SPEAKS LAUNCHES CITYWIDE SURVEY TO INFORM KEY PRIORITIES OF THE MAYOR ERIC ADAMS ADMINISTRATION

Survey results will inform community conversations across the city that will help guide budget and policy priorities in New York City.

NYC Speaks–the public engagement campaign designed to inform the priorities of newly elected Mayor Eric Adams and his administration – announced today the launch of the first phase of the initiative: a citywide survey that will seek input from New Yorkers about their communities, the issues they face and the future of the city.

The survey, which can be completed at NYCspeaks.org, will be open to the public from today through January 28, 2022. The survey asks New Yorkers a variety of questions about topics that concern them such as Health & Well-being, Housing & Neighborhoods, Economy & Workforce, Racial Equity, Gender Justice, Climate & Infrastructure, Education & Youth Development, Public Safety, Arts & Culture, and Civic Engagement. In addition to English, the survey will be available online in the top 10 languages spoken by New Yorkers with limited English proficiency:  Spanish, Chinese, Russian, Bengali, Haitian Creole, Korean, Arabic, Urdu, French, and Polish.

NYC Speaks is focusing on driving participation in communities that are too often left out of decision making processes and shaped by disparities. 18 organizations are acting as Community Data Partners, overseeing the work of more than 150 on-the-ground canvassers in the 33 priority neighborhoods identified by the City’s Taskforce on Racial Inclusion and Equity. All canvassing will be done with COVID safety protocols in place, including mandatory masking and social distancing. In addition, NYC Speaks is partnering with elected officials, nonprofits, and other civic organizations across the five boroughs to encourage participation in the survey.

KENYAN President Uhuru Kenyatta has joined fellow world leaders in mourning South Africa's anti-apartheid activist and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Desmond Tutu.

Tutu who has died in Cape Town on the morning of Sunday, December 26, 2021, was 90 years of age.  In a message of condolence to President Cyril Ramaphosa, the People of the Republic of South Africa, and the family of the Tutu family, Kenyatta mourned the ever-smiling Archbishop Desmond Tutu as an African icon of freedom, peace and reconciliation.

"The passing away of Archbishop Desmond Tutu is a big blow not only to the Republic of South Africa where he leaves behind huge footprints as an anti-apartheid hero but to the entire African continent where he is deeply respected and celebrated as a peacemaker.

Through his distinguished work over the years as a cleric, freedom fighter and peacemaker, Archbishop Tutu inspired a generation of African leaders who embraced his non-violent approaches in the liberation struggle," Kenyatta hailed the former head of the South African Anglican Church.

Kenyatta wished Ramaphosa, South Africans and the family of the departed prelate God's comfort as they come to terms with his demise.

"To my brother President Cyril Ramaphosa, the People of the Republic of South Africa and the family, friends and relatives of Archbishop Tutu, I pray to God to cover you all with his calming fortitude during this difficult period of mourning," Kenyatta condoled.
