How To Choose The Right Network Marketing Opportunity

By Carol Lynn

Don't Despair!

Here are a few key things to consider when selecting a network marketing company to partner with:

1. The product or service being offered - Is it unique and/or patented or have other companies already cornered the market?

2. Is the product consumable? – It’s difficult to sustain a customer base when the product is not consumable.  Jewelry and art are two good examples of this.  After a while a customer simply does not need to purchase anymore of these items.  That is why the health and wellness industry is booming.  The products are consumed and need to be replenished, usually on a monthly basis.

3. Timing – Is the company still in the growth or momentum phase?  For example, although great companies, you wouldn’t want to join Amway or Herbalife now.  They have already peaked in terms of saturation of distributors in the marketplace.

4. Compensation Plan – It is a business after all, so you have to choose a company with a great compensation plan to meet your needs and goals.

5. Training and Support – Does the company you’re considering offer free training and upline support?  The culture of the company you partner with plays a very important role in the success of its distributors.

St. Albans New YorkJackson Room, a local venue for jazz, and the Ed Jackson quartet, a highly regarded local jazz group, is again acting on their mission statement: to "bring world class jazz back to our community."   Jackson Room, is quickly becoming the go to place for jazz in this home for jazz greats. Ed Jackson, the group leader and alto sax musician extraordinaire, is also a successful entrepreneur.  He started Jackson Room, as a community outlet to also occasionally showcase premier jazz acts and groups.

Ed Jackson, Club Owner, Leads Jackson Room and the Ed Jackson Quartet

I was there for the 5th year anniversary.  It was really a blast celebrating the 5th Year Anniversary of Jackson Room, with their avid supporters last performance.  Akiko Tsuruga was mesmerizing on organ, Fuku Tainaka was riveting on drums, and Marcus McLaurine's son made a memorable 1st performance at Jackson Room filling in for his dad who was under the weather.

According to Club Owner and band leader Ed Jackson, "The 5 Year Anniversary of the Jackson Room is truly a milestone to pause and reflect on my deepest appreciation to our Jackson Room supporters.  Jackson Room patrons are the best!"

Jackson is however even more lit and invigorated.  He states "I am ready to embark upon another 5 great years at Jackson Room."   Without skipping a beat he is ready to have another outstanding show scheduled for you featuring the awe inspiring play of Rasheed Howard, and the extremely talented artistry of the Jazz Collective, live at the Jackson Room.

The Amazing Rasheed Howard Plays Trumpet and Flugelhorn Simultaneously

Chimes in Jackson, "we will be performing all original music in this 2nd appearance before the Jackson Room audience with a special tribute to the "Kings of Queens - Masters of Jazz Music!"  If you haven't seen Rasheed Howard, he is the dexterous phenom who plays both the trumpet and flugelhorn at the same time!  He and the other members of the Jazz Collective, will perform true to the mission of Jackson Room - to bring world class jazz back to our community.

What is the Kings of Queens About?

This section of Queens, that Jackson Room calls home, has also been the home at one time or another, to jazz legends like Count Basie, Fats Waller, Billie Holiday, John Coltrane, Lena Horne, Ella Fitzgerald, Miles Davis, Illinois Jacquet, and Mercer Ellington, and many more. Queens in general has a rich tradition of Jazz legends who have resided here.  The title alludes to giving tribute to the Kings of Jazz who hail from Queens.

You won't want to miss this last performance of the Summer.  So why don't you RSVP for the performance now?  Just Click Here

Your cadre of talented artists performing for your viewing pleasure will be:

Is Essence Magazine Available For A Return To Black Ownership?

You may have heard already that Time Inc, who bought a major stake in Essence Magazine 12 years ago, now wants to get rid of it. But it's not because the magazine is failing! In fact, the magazine, it's web site Essence.com, and their annual festival in New Orleans are thriving.

In fact, the Essence Music Festival alone, which on average attracts about 500,000 attendees, generates millions in sponsorship and ticket sales revenue every year.

So why are they selling it off?

The truth is that Time Inc. owns quite a few magazines including Coastal Living, Sunset and Golf. The company wants to sell off all of these publications (including Essence), as part of its attempt to go from being a print publisher to a digital-media producer.

The company's revenue and operating profit have both fallen sharply over the past 10 years, and they have decided to focus more on their stronger brands which include People, InStyle, Real Simple and TIME.

Regarding the Essence sell-off, Rich Battista, the company's CEO, told the Wall Street Journal, “We think the best way to do that is to bring in a strategic partner with investment capital.”

Will a Black-owned business step up and buy Essence?

Derek T. Dingle, Chief Content Officer at Black Enterprise says this could be a unique opportunity for African American entrepreneurs to invest in the premiere magazine.

He comments, "It would be fitting if an African American-led group of investors could purchase that majority stake and apply new business and digital strategies to enhance the brand for a new generation."

And Derek is right! Maybe the likes of Magic Johnson, Bob Johnson, Oprah Winfrey, Michael Jordan or a group of NBA or NFL players can all get together to buy the magazine. But only time will tell!

Originally launched in the year 1970, Essence has been a very successful lifestyle brand for African American women for almost 50 years. Many people are hoping that the brand will be picked up by a company that will keep it alive, and also return it back to it's former Black-owned status.
