The Black Business Owners Forum Looks To Level UP Your Business For Growth With Corporate And Government Contracts

Did you know over 90% of Black businesses are sole proprietorships with no employees and generate less than $55,000 a year? Less than 2% of Black businesses get government or corporate contracts and venture capital. I want to turn this around and help develop more viable Black businesses.

Senator James Sanders Jr. Pushes Mental Health Legislation to End Gun Violence

(Albany, NY) - Today Senator James Sanders Jr. (D-Queens) and the New York State Association of Black, Puerto Rican Hispanic & Asian Legislators held a press conference to push his legislation (S1605/A3829), which requires a purchaser of any firearm, rifle or shotgun to submit to a mental health evaluation and provide the seller with his or her approval to purchase such firearm. A companion bill is sponsored by Assembly Member Tom Abinanti.

"We have had many tragic shootings in my District covering Southeast Queens, throughout the State and Nation, that show the need to take stronger action to prevent gun violence," Senator Sanders said. "Mass shootings have become an epidemic in America. Tens of thousands of Americans are killed each year from gun violence. "

Statement From Senator James Sanders Jr. One Year After The Murder of George Floyd

State Senator James Sanders Jr. said: “Today on the one-year anniversary of the death of George Floyd, we take time to reflect on the injustices committed in our society by members of law enforcement against people of color.

This tragic murder of an unarmed man by a now former police officer did not have to happen. For those of us who watched the infamous and horrifying video of Derek Chauvin with his knee on George Floyd’s neck for 9 minutes and 29 seconds, there are no words – just shock and disbelief. This is not an isolated incident.

Today as we remember George Floyd, let us also remember to honor the lives of Breonna Taylor, Eric Garner, Mike Brown, Daniel Prude, Adam Toledo, Ma’Khia Bryant, and the countless others who are no longer with us due to inappropriate police action. We must support legislation like the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act so that this type of loss of life never happens again.”

HAITI, I THINK OF YOU

Historically speaking, every time I think of Haiti's indigenous Taino (Caribbean) people of South America, the name Christopher Columbus (December 5, 1492) comes to mind. Upon arriving in this most populous country in the Caribbean, Columbus thought that he was in India or China.  Today's estimates of Haiti’s population are 11.4 million people, according to various encyclopedia sources.

Overtime, Spain (early 17th century) made Haiti an integral part of the Spanish Empire (La Española). In 1697, the French portion of West Haiti (Saint-Domingue), France 'profitably colonized' sugarcane plantations by using thousands of slaves who were captured in Africa.

Thus, creating one of the riches colonies in the whole-wide world. However, during the French Revolution (1789-1799), the first Black general of the French Army, Toussaint Louverture led free Haitians and slaves successfully (1789-1804), while defeating Napoleon Bonaparte's army. Then in 1804, Jean-Jacques Dessalines (General-Emperor) solemnly proclaimed Haiti as a sovereign nation of South America and the Caribbean; the first country in the Americas to abolish slavery.

Article & Video On Supporting Haiti During National Crisis Continues Below...

Historical Note: All of Haiti's first political leaders were former slaves. The first President of Haiti was one of its founding fathers, Alexandre Petion, March 9, 1807 - March 29, 1818. After Haiti was momentarily divided, Jean- Pierre Boyer for a time helped to bring all of Hispaniola together under a Haitian government; following repeated wars that ended in the 1870s after Haiti recognized an independent Dominican Republic. Then for another 100 Plus years of independence, Haiti struggled politically, socially, and international exclusion: numerous economic problems, extreme poverty, and financial setbacks (1915-19-34).

Following a series of presidential absolute failures, autocratic Presidents, Francois "Papa Doc" Duvalier (1956) and his son Jean-Claude “Doc” Duvalier (1986) led Haitians under repeated periods of civilian 'state-sanctioned violence,’ economic corruption, and a plethora of instabilities. Moving forward, since1986, thirty-five years, Haiti has been willfully trying to democratize its political system of government. Today Haiti is a member of the United Nations, International Monetary Fund, Organization of American States (OAS), and various other national and international organizations. However, recently the 21st century coup d'état overthrow/takeover governmental attitude still exist today in Haiti, which involved the viciously brutal assassination of Jovenel Moïse on July 7, 2021.

Meanwhile, Haiti's numerous environmental problems are continuing almost seasonally: devastating hurricanes and earthquakes 2010- 2021; most recently a 7.2 magnitude earthquake, and high cases of COVID-19, August 14, 2021 (Wikipedia and Media Sources). Haiti’s destructive Earthquake, January 12, 2010, killed over 250,000 people (about half the population of Wyoming), and made 1.5 million people homeless. So sadly, most of Haiti's infrastructure and abundant 'cultural heritage' were destroyed completely beyond existence (Microsoft Bing).

 

Yes, Haiti I think of You when I listen to these lyrics by Sam Cooke, Eddie Huffman and the Soul Stirrers, "I'm like a ship that's tossed and driven, battered by an angry sea, when the storms of life keep on raging, Father, remember me." And Bill Withers sings, “Lean on Me.”  See Below...

I am also reminded of Jamaican political activist, founder and first President-General of the Universal Negro Improvement Association and African League (UNIA-ACL), Marcus Garvey (1887-1940). Garvey once wrote to Haiti's President Louis Borno (1865-1942) on August 3, 1924, and said these words, "Long live free and independent Haiti, the pride of the black race of the western world." Mortgage Pro Timothy Griggs Is Banking On His Innovative App To Help Reverse The Foreboding Forecast Of Zero Wealth In the Black Community

Black Median Wealth By 2053 Is predicted to be zero.  A Black Enterprise, article stated "You can have a glamorous six-figure salary, advanced degrees, and an executive title at a large corporation and still be impacted by the negative net worth virus that is prevalent in black communities. According to The Road to Zero Wealth report published by Prosperity Now and the Institute for Policy Studies, the median wealth of black Americans will fall to zero by 2053 if current trends continue."

However, a sharp decline towards a median Black net worth of zero won't happen on mortgage pro and tech innovator Timothy Griggs' watch.  If Griggs has his way, despite gloom and doom predictions of disappearing Black wealth, his new technically advanced The Good Steward Financial System (TGS), app will help reverse the course of poverty in Black communities.

Danielle Douglas And The Black Business Owners Forum Inspires Entrepreneurs To Level UP During Black Business Month

It's National Black Business Month! We celebrate you!

"Although the end of August is fast approaching, it is still National Black Business Month! We did not want the month to end without acknowledging you!"  Danielle Douglas, Founder the Black Business Owners Forum.

Danielle Douglas, a veteran consultant with business owners on getting contracts with government entities and the corporate sector, is the Founder of Black Business Owners Forum (BBOF).  The promising BBOF is looking in its 2nd year to help LEVEL UP Black business to grow and expand! 

Every year Guidant Financial and the Small Business Trends Alliance (SBTA) conduct a survey to learn about small business trends and life as a small business owner. Most recently, they asked Black small business owners questions ranging from their experiences throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, in nexus to their confidence in business - given the current political landscape, to their biggest obstacles as business owners?

"It was interesting to learn why other Black business owners started their businesses, what they believe are their current challenges, and what they envision for their future.  As a fellow Black business owner, the responses completely resonated with me" shares Ms. Douglas.

Douglas also expressed "as small business owners, we often feel alone on our entrepreneurial journey. It can be freeing to know there are other business owners experiencing similar challenges that keep us up at night.  That's exactly why I did the above video!
