THE STORY OF THE BETA OMICRON CHAPTER OF THE ALPHA PHI ALPHA FRATERNITY
Phil W. Petrie and his bookcover
Nationwide -- In an era when hazing has shamed Greek-Letter fraternities and sororities into embarrassment, and the president of the United States, with no shame, admonishes Black audiences that their plight is already in such despair they have nothing to lose. Fortunately, the publication of Beta Omicron's 84-year old history belies the foolishness of misguided contemporary hazing, and the unfortunate words of the president.

Two Gates For Transformation: The Story of Beta Omicron by Phil W. Petrie, is neither a how-to manual informing readers what steps to take, or not take, when joining a fraternity; nor is it an exposure of Alpha Phi Alpha's rites and rituals. It is the story of Black youths who first changed themselves and then the world in which they lived. This has been happening at Tennessee State University [Beta Omicron's collegiate home], since 1930, and at other HBCUs since 1907.

Two Gates was written so that all HBCU graduates, whether they were in a sorority, fraternity, or an independent, can appreciate this publication.

BALTIMORE AUTHOR RECEIVES NATIONAL RECOGNITION FOR MEMOIR ABOUT HER UPBRINGING AND COLORISM

"...a graciously and generously-provided tool for would-be allies who seek to eliminate, in themselves and their communities, the personal and institutional racism that causes and perpetuates colorism."

Nationwide -- Baltimore-based writer Petula Caesar's first book, a memoir entitled She's Such A Bright Girl: An American Story has been recognized nationally. A panel of award-winning writers recognized her book as one of the top works submitted for consideration to North Street Book Prize, which honors the top self-published books in the nation in categories ranging from poetry to literary fiction to children's books.

Out of nearly one thousand entries, Petula's book finished among the 11 awarded winners, receiving an honorable mention in the Non-Fiction category. In talking about the book, the judging panel described the book as "an exploration of the intersections of racism, classism, and sexism with a focus on colorism within the author's nuclear family," adding that the book "urgently needs a wider audience...this book should be included in high school and undergraduate classes on racism and sexism. It's that good. It's that important."

(Read the full review at https://winningwriters.com/past-winning-entries/shes-such-a-bright-girl) Petula and her book have been the impetus for several passionate and at times tense discussions about racism, colorism, classism and privilege that she facilitates at local library branches and in other community spaces.

THIS BLACK-OWNED CHEMICAL FREE HAIR COLOR PRODUCT IS TAKING THE INDUSTRY BY STORM!
 Link To Mysteek Naturals

Nationwide -- Electra S. Davis, founder of Mysteek Naturals, is believed to be one of the first women to have created a chemical free hair color product - having started developing the product in 2016. The company is a Black woman, veteran-owned small business. She's a 35-year old divorcee who let that fire push her further to the top, and mother of two beautiful children, and Bachelor's in business administration with a concentration of accounting.

Getting started
Electra started her company because, like so many other women, she was looking for an alternative to the rinses that weren't giving her the vibrant popping color that she so badly wanted yet with the harmful chemicals and process of using a developer to bleach her hair to get that vibrant color she so badly desired.

She began using the color on herself and other people began to ask her how she was changing her hair weekly and sometime daily without damaging it. Once she told them, they requested she start making them some as well and this is how the company was birthed.

She started her toothpaste line after learning the color code on the commercial toothpaste she used at the time were chemical indicators and poisonous to her and her children's health. Also, she began to research and realized that fluoride was a poison and no longer wanted to use the toothpaste. She loves to live and use naturals products as humanly possible. So, she officially launched the Mysteek Naturals, LLC business in May 2017.
