Queens with Delicious Hot Artisan
Meals and Culinary Treats
Families and community members gathered around to enjoy a ladle of warm comfort in a bowl.
We had a variety of delicious soups this year, we had a vegetable pumpkin soup, provided by Beach Dunes Cafe restaurant, and vegetarian sandwich wraps, which were a big hit, compliments of Annie Mohan of Campaign Against Hunger.
Community member Miss Myrtle brought a vegetarian option of pasta chickpea curry soup, so yummy, and community organizer, member of the Feed My Sheep organization, and Eye For Decoration business, Aiysha Simon, decorated the space with soup-related decor, and brought her now famous super yummy broccoli cheddar cheese soup.
This year, I brought my Chicken Tortilla soup, with fresh homemade tortilla strips, I called the “Benito bowl” (a little nod to the NFL Super Bowl’s Bad Bunny performer), and I made an old favorite American-style creamy chicken and dumplings soup.. Scrumptious sweet treats were provided by TraOre Desserts.. and much-appreciated beverages were donated by newly retired EMS worker Mr. Ozzie, and photos by Rockaway’s fabulous photographer Mr. Darryl C. Madison and Qiky Kidz Rohn Boyd.

Souper Bowl Party

We played games, did coloring, shared stories about memories of making soup with families and learning recipes from grandparents, etc., and did a little dancing. Author Sharmeika Davis-Boyd and her husband, Rohn Boyd of Qiky Kidz, brought the fun for the whole family to enjoy, entertainment, and prizes for all attendees.
Sharmeika Davis Boyd delighted the crowd by reading her children’s book, “Grandma has a mouse in her house,” and gave advice to aspiring authors as to what it takes to be an author. And Elder, Baba Simon (Ayisha’s Dad) offered a different version of the Soup Stone story.
I read the story last year because it’s such an integral part of the whole event; the involvement of everyone adding to the pot is what makes the soup gathering special.
But the main ingredient was the participation of everyone … they were the best ingredient, so thankful and grateful for everyone who came out. Giving much thanks to Mr. Dunbar for the use of the space, He says, “he looks forward to the Souper Bowl more than the NFL Super Bowl.”
I agree because it’s the best way to say goodbye to the Winter Blues. And welcome Spring. Hope you join us next year…and we share some more recipes, cooking demonstrations, and new memories.
New Self-Help Book
“Blame It on the Feel of Pain”
About Detangling From Past Pain
Get ready for a transformational journey toward inner peace as indie author Max W. Miller’s new self-help release, Blame It On The Feel Of Pain, inspires readers in a witty, down-to-earth book. Truth and compassion are foretold, using poetic frames called ‘The Wises,’ and the help of opinionated little emojis bringing laughter and thought-provoking conclusions throughout.
The author encourages her readers, whom she also calls partners, to stop wrestling with the hard knocks of the past. She expresses how voluntarily walking back into time precedes trauma healing. Confronting lingering pains is a step toward strength and hope for the future. ‘Blame It’ delves into the author’s life experiences, bringing to life the importance of using Full Circle Moments to find resolutions.
Throughout Blame It On The Feel Of Pain, the reader grows to understand through a unique interpretation that what we are destined to become grows out of the years we’ve already traveled. Further, our future hinges on how we address the pains of the past. Other expressions focus on how desires in the present are carved out of having a clear vision that old, lingering strongholds must be defeated. A history of suffering is a prerequisite for becoming fed up enough to demand enjoyment now!
