COMMUNITY ACTIVIST, DR. HAROLD E. BAILEY, BOLDLY SPEAKS OUT ABOUT THE POLICE KILLING OF 17-YEAR OLD LAQUAN MCDONALD

Nationwide -- It has become apparent to the African American community that a subliminal biased message has been communicated from the 'Trump White House', into States Houses, City Political Houses and into the 'Broken Criminal Justice' arena.Months after being convicted for second-degree murder, former Chicago police officer Jason Van Dyke has been sentenced to six years and nine months in prison and two years of mandatory supervised release for the 2014 murder of 17-year old Laquan McDonald. 

Van Dyke shot McDonald 16 times with 9 in the back... on the night of October 20, 2014. Van Dyke claimed that he fired after McDonald failed to comply with demands to drop a knife he was holding and made a threatening move toward police. 

Judge Domenica Stephenson acquitted former Officer Joseph Walsh, Detective David March, and Officer Thomas Gaffney on charges of conspiracy, official misconduct, and obstruction of justice.

FOUNDER OF BLACK-OWNED JUICE BRAND HONORED BY THE GOVERNOR OF TEXAS

Houston, TX --  In his biennial State of the State address on Tuesday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott touted the state's strong economy and workforce, highlighting the success story of J.I.V.E. Juice founder Tamala Austin. J.I.V.E, which stands for Juicing Is Very Essential, is the first juice company owned by an African American to be placed in Whole Foods, and Austin received a standing ovation by state leaders in honor of her accomplishments.

"Inspiration, hard work and drive pay off in Texas; they paid off for Tamala," Gov. Abbott stated, citing the growth of J.I.V.E. Juice from a home-based business into a retail success. "Let us thank you for your inspiration of what a business leader can be."

BLACK-OWNED STREAMING SERVICE HELPS RECYCLE BLACK DOLLARS IN URBAN COMMUNITIES 

New York, NY -- With subscriber numbers soaring, Black-owned social streaming platform X On Demand (xod.tv) is looking to broaden not only their reach - but the reach of other Black-owned businesses.

The social media forward Netflix-style site, which bills itself as "a platform dedicated to showcasing works by Black filmmakers and content creators," currently offers three monthly subscription plans. Two of those plans are supposed to contain ad-sponsored videos, but that is not the case - yet. X On Demand's Founder and CEO Rashidah De Vore, and Marketing Director Eri Washington, released a video announcing XOD's ad initiative for Black-owned businesses looking to reach a new base of consumers.

Businesses can purchase ad space to play between each video on the site, connecting them with XOD's worldwide audience. Pricing starts at just $2 for a week long run, with blocks of unskippable ad time ranging from 15 to 60 seconds. Both video and still image ads are accepted, with still images remaining on the screen for the purchased block of time.

DISCOVERING THE EXCELLENCE WITHIN: REALIZING MY GREATNESS IN SOUTH AFRICA

Nationwide -- I had my first taste of global cultural learning in 2015 when I traveled to Qatar at the age of 14 for a week-long Arabic debate competition. Two years earlier, in seventh grade, I had started taking Arabic classes at Lindbolm Math and Science Academy, a selective high school serving gifted and marginalized students in Chicago.

Until I became a Frederick Douglass Global Fellow and studied in South Africa last summer, the Qatar trip had been my most extensive abroad experience. But what transpired during the summer of 2018 in South Africa, made me realize that was only the beginning of my personal development.

When I started at Lindbolm Academy as a seventh grader, I experienced a challenging environment, something more dynamic than anything I had experienced before. I relished in the opportunity to engage with a new culture through my Arabic language and dance courses because it provided an outlet for some of my feelings of displacement.

I felt lost and uncomfortable in my new environment. I was forced to push the boundaries to which I had grown accustomed, and at times, I struggled with the changes.
