On This July 4th Independence Day and Thru-out History We Learn - Freedom Ain't Free

By Kamau Austin

This July 4th, Independence Day we truly have to remember now more than ever: Freedom Ain't Free? Given these foreboding political times we have to see thru the lens of the call to defend our purported democracy.

This is against the backdrop on the recent Supreme Court decision that lower Federal Courts can't make decisions setting precedent or doing nation wide injunctions on court cases.

On this 4th of July, Brotha Rev. Corbett, is both a Pastor and Civil Rights Attorney, has some very sobering insights on our country's purported Democracy. He examines the dissent in a recent court case from Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson.  Checkout the ramifications of the recent Supreme Court Decision From the dire perspective of Justice Jackson: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9Dxd6fhvaA&t=2381s .

I hope all of us sincerely pray for and work hard for this country. On this 4th Of July We should know ICE is not only detaining undocumented violent criminal migrants, like Trump originally stated, they are arresting documented immigrants going thru the legal process and denying them due process at courts.

In other words some immigrants are here legally and they are being violently detained and deported or imprisoned and some of their families don't even know where to contact them.  Checkout this newscast by Pix11News: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWmC5xcKm0k .

This is such an controversial issue the the curator of National Freedom Day, Venita Benitez, makes the case that the ICE detentions and deportations are opening the path for new forms of slavery.  She speaks more on this in a recent exclusive article with the Black News Scoop, You can see her Op-ed by Clicking Here.

Black, Hispanic/Latino, and all Americans who believe in true democracy have to work together to stop illegal and unconstitutional overreach by President Trump and the Executive Branch thru voting, boycotting, and advocacy especially as it relates to stopping the attempt at ending birthright citizenship and detaining and deporting immigrants going thru the legal process...

We should be fighting for democracy both home and abroad.  While we are fighting for democracy here in the US we also have to be aware of inhumane treatment aboard in places like Gaza, where Palestinians are being slaughtered according to credible independent digital news outlets like Democracy Now.  An American doctor says Conditions in Gaza are the worst he's ever seen.  View it for yourself

When we don't invest in the struggle for democracy worldwide we, in a self imposed paucity, will lose our freedom slowly but certainly.  This is because freedom costs us our empathy, love, and determination to keep it.  Freedom is the compassion currency enriching us all, and it costs sacrifice - it most certainly ain't Free.
