WOMEN'S VOICES REIGN SUPREME ON NEW HIP-HOP PODCAST

New York, NY -- It's 2019 and hip-hop is still going strong. Women are making strides in society, culture and justice. As we celebrate Women's History Month, one must ask the question who are the women on the minds of today's hip-hop fans?

Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, Remy Ma, the incomparable Roxanne Shante just to name a few - women are ingrained in hip hop, but never leading the conversation! Starting with DJ Kool Herc's sister Cindy Campbell's back to school party in their Bronx apartment building community center, women have been there since the birth of hip hop. Now is the time to hear what the ladies have to say!

Poppin Off Pink is a woman-led podcast created by Hip Hop Scriptures founder "Chi Chi" Lewis, providing women's perspective on all things hip-hop. She comments, "I thought it was finally time for us to lead the conversation about women in hip-hop."

Nationwide -- A celebration of the transformative power of music, and the bonds that develop when artists collaborate and worlds collide, the film follows Satan & Adam, a blues duo and a fixture on Harlem's sidewalks in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Director V. Scott Balcerek pulls together over two decades of documentary footage to chart the duo's trajectory from busking in the streets of Harlem, where they were happened upon by U2 who were filming for their Rattle and Hum documentary, to bigger and bigger stages, depicting the challenges that both had to overcome to keep Satan & Adam and their friendship together.

Playing for years with artists including James Brown, Etta James and Marvin Gaye, Sterling Magee experienced the music industry's exploitation of black musicians firsthand. So he walked away to play on the Harlem streets for "his people."

WISCONSIN MAN BECOMES THE FIRST AND ONLY OF 21 CHILDREN IN HIS FAMILY TO GRADUATE FROM COLLEGE
Paul Lamar Hunter, the first child of 21 children to graduate from college
Nationwide -- Paul Lamar Hunter was born in Racine, Wisconsin in 1970, the 19th of 21 natural children born to James and Louise Hunter. His childhood experiences included poverty, neglect, and tragedy. After the deaths of his father and brother Louise focused her energy on the homeless shelter she founded. Though the shelter was meant to be a stabilizing influence for her family and respite for the downtrodden, it was a breeding ground of dysfunction.

In 2012, Paul made history by becoming the first and only child in his family to graduate from college with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Upper Iowa University. He was able to do this even though he admits that he wasn't really a good student.

"I wasn't going to let any hardships stop me from pursuing my goals in life," he comments. "Education was important to me and nothing was going to stop me from completing my degree. When you come from the inner-city and you walk into a university, you must have your mind set on positive thoughts and accomplishing the task that is before you. You are focused and determine to succeed in the classroom because you want to shine like a star in the sky."

PREGNANCY EXPERT DR. LINDA BURKE WINS ACOG SCHOLARSHIP TO LOBBY ON CAPITOL HILL
Dr. Linda Burke
Orlando, FL -- Dr. Linda Burke, board-certified OB-GYN physician, author and blogger, travels to Washington, D.C. in March of 2019 to lobby on Capitol Hill for women's health. Her passion, advocacy and exceptional clinical acumen earned her a full scholarship to attend the 37th Annual Congressional Leadership Conference, the President's Conference in Washington, DC from March 10th through 12th. Dr. Burke was recently reappointed to the District 12 Perinatal Morbidity Committee American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG).

During this annual conference, OB-GYN physicians from across the nation learn how to better lobby their U.S. Senators and Representatives on behalf of ACOG and their individual communities. Dr. Burke will use this opportunity to discuss strategies for reducing maternal mortality - especially as it relates to African-American women whose death rate is 3x greater than non-black women in the United States, according to the CDC.

On December 27, 2018, President Donald Trump signed the Preventing Maternal Death Act of 2017, mandating all 50 states to report maternal deaths, review the cause, inform the public and provide ongoing training to healthcare providers. Dr. Burke focuses on this monumental first step in protecting pregnant women, and their unborn babies, and plans to become actively involved on a state and national level.
