ARMY SERGEANT DESIGNS STREET WEAR FITNESS BRAND THAT CATERS TO FITNESS HIP-HOP ENTHUSIASTS

Kyle Harvey is a pioneer bringing together what for many is two divergent lifestyles.  The visionary and innovator is merging the fitness lifestyle with an unlikely partner: hip hop!

Finding the right out of the box, urban streetwear with a fitness theme is something many of us never knew existed. Rack Runners, a fitness-driven, urban-style clothing line, by Kyle Harvey, 35, a Sergeant in the U.S. Army, was created in 2017.

Rack Runners sells a variety of merchandise including t-shirts, joggers, hoodies, eBooks, and fitness accessories. Since launching, Rack Runners has amassed 10k followers on Facebook and Instagram, also being hand-selected by Facebook to be one of 1,300 members of the Boost Facebook Leaders Network.

Harvey, an Ohio native & Washington, DC area resident, fully opened the Rack Runners online shop after 3 years of finding a niche and working diligently towards quality, research, and development. “Nobody, to my knowledge, has ever combined, streetwear, hip-hop culture, the love of food, and fitness together.

This is what I feel makes my brand unique. There are not just checks or stripes on a shirt. Plenty of time, thought, and creativity went into building this vision. I spent many hours drawing designs from my phone, so it motivates me when I see people wearing my clothes,” Harvey says.

I was able recently to convince the busy entrepreneur to spend some time with me to talk about his goals, insights, and past struggles.  Checkout his exclusive interview below...

Kamau:
Can you share with us a glimpse of life growing up as a young person and your military background.

Kyle's Answer: Growing up in Sandusky, Ohio, I had a good life. I was surrounded by great friends and at working age I was introduced to different cultures due to Cedar Point, an amusement park that brought in workers globally. This kind of set me up for the military and understanding different cultures coming together for a common cause.

Kamau: What inspired you to merge your vision of hip hop and fitness cultures in your present business?

Kyle's Answer: My love for both gave me the idea to merge them. I felt as though hip hop culture wasn’t appreciated on apparel in the gym although it’s always either on the loudspeaker or in headphones in most gyms.

Kamau: What is the name and services you offer in your business?

Kyle's Answer: the brand is Rack Runners, currently we offer eBooks on losing weight, men’s sexual health, an Army specific training guide, the apparel, and fitness accessories, with more on the way.

Kamau: What is the uniqueness in your business in contrast to similar businesses in the fashion area?

Kyle's Answer: The uniqueness when it comes to fitness is that there are no other companies that focus on hip hop culture the way that we do. I have a feeling that the more we see this brand spread, the more you’ll see other brands take inspiration from the ideas and expand upon it. I think we differ from other fashion businesses.

We have our motivational inspired clothing and also grab inspiration from the love of hip hop.  Moreover, we still keep it all in alignment with fitness.  We endeavor to keep it unique and focused to what we’re trying to accomplish.

Kamau: Can you tell us about some of the challenges you've had in business and how you've overcame them?

Kyle's Answer: The biggest challenge was starting and understanding how to take ideas and make them come to life. When we first started, we had no idea how to make things happen. The more we kept pushing, the more was unveiled.

Kamau: Can you tell us about some of your goals and plans for the future of your business?

Kyle's Answer: The biggest goal is to get our own line of shoes. This is the next big project and we look forward to seeing it sooner than later.

Kamau: Why do you think you've been able to connect with so many people on social media and online?

Kyle's Answer: I believe that it was a mixture of what we post, the energy, the love we show, understanding the algorithms, and smart ad running on certain posts.

Kamau: What is the best way to contact you and see your fashion line?

Kyle's Answer: Best way to contact us would be through www.Instagram.com/rackrunners_ or www.facebook.com/rackrunners1 and the best way to check out the products and support will be at www.rackrunners.net
