Should The Democratic Party Be
Abandoned By Black People?

One
thing I must do is applaud all the Black people who discuss politics.
But I believe there are some serious misconceptions out there.
Some people are claiming it is the Democrats who have always hurt or undermined the aspirations of Blacks. Nothing could be further from the truth.
It was a Democratic President (Harry
Truman) who integrated the Armed Forces. It was Democratic President
(John F. Kennedy) who said of those fighting for their Civil Rights:
"the cause of the Negro is just."

It was a Democratic President (Lyndon B. Johnson) who appointed the first Black on the Supreme Court. It was Sen. and later Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey and all those brave Democrats who cajoled and won over many Republicans to their side to get the Civil Rights and Voting Rights bills enacted into law.
It was a Democratic President (Jimmy Carter), who appointed the first Black cabinet members. Bill Clinton, another Democrat, became the first Chief Executive to appoint five Black people to a presidential cabinet. Never before had a Black held any of the four positions previously at Commerce, Agriculture, Energy and Veterans Affairs.
What political party offered the first Presidential nomination to a Black person? It sure wasn't the Republicans, was it? And the members of what party actually elected the country's first Black President? The Democratic Party, that's who!
It's just not Black people that Democrats have fought decades for. Democrats have always fought for the rights of women, for the rights of Latinos, for the rights of immigrants, for the rights of union members.
If you truly think the Democratic Party does not care about Black people, then you have been asleep all of your life.
