Attorney General James Sues Trump Administration for Trying to Slash Youth Mental Health Funding Again

After AG James Won Court Order Protecting School-Based Mental Health Grants, Trump Administration Attempts to Cut the Same Funding

Bipartisan Grant Programs Were Established After Parkland and Uvalde to Help Schools Hire Mental Health Professionals in Low-Income and Rural Communities

New York Attorney General Letitia James joined a coalition of 14 other attorneys general in suing the U.S. Department of Education and Secretary Linda McMahon for again attempting to unlawfully cut federal funding for school-based mental health services. The lawsuit challenges the administration’s latest effort to terminate grant programs that help schools hire mental health professionals, which were created by a bipartisan majority in Congress in response to the worsening youth mental health crisis and a series of tragic school shootings, including in Parkland, Florida and Uvalde, Texas.

In December 2025, Attorney General James and the coalition secured a permanent injunction blocking the administration’s attempt to unlawfully end these grants. Now, the Education Department is attempting to evade that court order by implementing the very same policy to eliminate these grants using a different method. Attorney General James and the coalition are asking the court to preliminarily and permanently stop the administration from cutting off this critical funding and protect the youth mental health infrastructure schools have built under these programs.

“The first time this administration tried to take mental health services away from children, we beat them in court,” said Attorney General James. “Now they are trying to carry out the same illegal scheme and abandon students who need support. We already stopped them once, and we are prepared to do it again. My office will keep fighting to protect our children’s mental health and ensure schools have the resources to hire counselors, social workers, and psychologists in communities that need them most.”

Senator James Sanders Jr. Announces Senate Passage of Bill S.3695 to Protect Small Businesses from Predatory Lending

Albany, NY — Senator James Sanders Jr. proudly announces the Senate passage of S.3695, a critical consumer‑protection bill that prohibits the use of confessions of judgment in contracts for financial products or services. This legislation represents a major step forward in safeguarding New York’s small businesses from predatory lenders who have long exploited this legal loophole.

A confession of judgment allows a lender to obtain a court judgment against a borrower without ever filing a lawsuit. For years, unscrupulous lenders have used this tactic to seize assets, drain bank accounts, and financially devastate tens of thousands of small businesses — including many that never missed a payment.

“Small businesses are the backbone of our communities, and they deserve protection from predatory practices that threaten their survival,” said Senator James Sanders Jr. “Confessions of judgment have been weaponized against hardworking entrepreneurs. With S.3695, we are closing the door on this abuse once and for all.”

Under S.3695, lenders will no longer be permitted to include confessions of judgment in any contract or agreement for a financial product or service. This ensures that disputes must go through proper legal channels, giving small businesses the due process they deserve.

The bill now heads to the Assembly for consideration.

Today’s vote is a victory for fairness, transparency, and economic justice,” Senator Sanders added. “We will continue fighting to ensure that every small business in New York has a fair chance to grow and thrive.”

Residents Call Emergency Town Hall Following Concerns Over Barricades, Access Restrictions, and Lack of Community Input During Annual Ohel Pilgrimage

CAMBRIA HEIGHTS, NY — Community Organizer James Johnson is hosting an Emergency Town Hall following growing concerns from residents regarding an NYPD operational plan associated with the annual Ohel pilgrimage that would restrict access to residential blocks in Cambria Heights from June 17 through June 21.

Residents say they were not fully informed about the scope of the plan and have expressed frustration over barricades being placed throughout residential streets and reports that homeowners may be required to show identification to access their own blocks.

The annual Ohel pilgrimage brings tens of thousands of visitors from around the world to Cambria Heights each year. Residents recognize the significance of the event and support efforts to maintain public safety. However, many believe there must be a better balance between managing a major event and respecting the rights of local homeowners.

After 53 Years, The Knicks Are Champions — And Southeast Queens Has Something To Say

By Southeast Queens Scoop

For more than five decades, New York Knicks fans waited, hoped, argued, suffered, believed, gave up, came back, and believed again.

Now, after 53 long years, the wait is finally over.

The New York Knicks are NBA champions again, defeating the San Antonio Spurs 94–90 in Game 5 of the NBA Finals and bringing basketball glory back to New York City for the first time since 1973.

Across the five boroughs, the reaction was electric. Fans poured into the streets, car horns blasted, fireworks lit up the night, and generations of New Yorkers celebrated a moment many thought they might never see. But in Southeast Queens — from Jamaica to St. Albans, Hollis, Laurelton, Cambria Heights, Springfield Gardens, and Far Rockaway — the Knicks’ championship hit differently.

For longtime fans, this was not just about basketball. It was about loyalty. It was about surviving decades of disappointment. It was about remembering family members who cheered for the Knicks long before this generation was born. It was about New York pride.

Jalen Brunson helped lead the Knicks to the mountaintop with a legendary 45-point performance in the championship-clinching game, securing Finals MVP honors and instantly placing himself among the most beloved sports figures in New York history.

But the real story may be what this championship means to the people.

Southeast Queens residents are already sounding off with pride, joy, humor, and disbelief.

376 Black Men Answered the Call — Southeast Queens Town Hall Returns for Part 2 Tonight

Jamaica, NY — June 2, 2026 — Following an overwhelming turnout of 376 Black men at the first State of the Black Man Address, community organizer James Johnson and Organizing Us LLC will host The State of the Black Man: Southeast Queens Town Hall – Part 2 tonight at the Robert Ross Johnson Family Life Center in Jamaica, Queens.

The town hall will bring together men from all walks of life for an honest conversation about public safety, mentorship, fatherhood, mental health, conflict resolution, and the future of Black communities in Southeast Queens.

Unlike traditional forums, this event is designed to move beyond discussion and focus on practical solutions.

A highlight of tonight’s program will be a live interactive skit demonstrating how men should safely and effectively approach a troubled youth in the neighborhood before a situation escalates into violence. The demonstration will show real-world intervention techniques, communication strategies, and the role everyday men can play in preventing conflict and guiding young people toward better decisions.

“People keep asking what the solution is,” said James Johnson, organizer of the town hall. “The solution is us. When men show up, build relationships, hold each other accountable, and engage our young people, we can change the direction of our community.”

Media will have the opportunity to:

  •     Observe a unique community-led conversation among Black men.
  •     Witness the live youth intervention skit.
  •     Interview organizers, participants, and community leaders.
  •     Capture visuals of hundreds of men gathered to discuss solutions for Southeast    Queens.
  •     Learn about the emerging RSR Initiative (Read the Situation. Prioritize Safety. React Before It’s Too Late), which encourages community members to safely intervene before conflicts become tragedies.

You've worked hard, built something real, and surrounded yourself with people you love.  A  conversation about life insurance isn't about death — it's about protecting every single thing you've  built, for every person who depends on you.

Imagine two families. Both lose a spouse unexpectedly. One had life insurance. The other did not.

In the first family, the surviving spouse receives a phone call from their agent. Arrangements are made.  The mortgage is covered. The children's education fund is protected. Grief is devastating — but it is just  grief, not also financial collapse.

In the second family, the calls are different. The bank. The landlord. The credit card company. Within  months, the family is forced to sell the home. Life's savings are gone within a year. Grief and financial  desperation arrive together — at exactly the wrong time.

This isn't a scare tactic. It is the quiet reality that plays out in families across this country every single  day. Life insurance exists so that your story, and your family's story, can be the first one.

Click, Tap or Scan QR Code Below to Schedule Your Free no-obligation  Consultation with Nadia Doman Today.

Most people understand, in theory, that life insurance is important. What many don't realize is how central  it is — not just at death, but throughout your entire financial life. Life insurance may help:

Replace your income If you were gone tomorrow, could your family maintain their home, cover  daily expenses, and fund your children's future on a single income? Life insurance may help fill  that gap.

Eliminate debt Mortgages, car loans, business obligations, and personal debt don't disappear.  Life insurance may ensure your family inherits your assets — not your liabilities.

Fund education Protecting your children's educational future, regardless of what happens to  you, is one of the greatest gifts a parent can give.

Preserve your estate Without proper planning, estate taxes and settlement costs may  significantly erode the wealth you've spent decades building.

Protect your business Key person coverage, buy-sell agreements, and business succession  funding may help ensure your business survives and thrives, even in your absence.

Build tax-advantaged wealth Certain permanent life insurance products may accumulate cash  value on a tax-deferred basis, providing a living benefit you can access when you need it most.*
