The UN Deep Dive — What No One Has Ever Explained Publicly
The United Nations launched the remembrance in New York in 2008. But the history it commemorates begins in Hampton, Virginia, at Point Comfort, where the first Africans were brought in 1619. For decades, the global remembrance existed far from the soil where the trauma began.
Benitez saw what historians had not yet acted upon: The remembrance must return to the origin — without leaving New York. From Dallas, she began the work. She researched, documented, and traced the lineage of memory.

Her work resulted in a historic confirmation: At Fort Monroe, Ms. Benitez will host the UN remembrance every year on March 25 — permanently.

A Tradition of Resilience — Inherited, Not Invented

Benitez’s historical work does not end at 1619. Her book, The Three Georges by Venita Maria Benitez, restores another erased narrative — the triad of George Washington, King George III, and the forgotten Black Patriot George Key.
