Following the tremendous success of the REMA4US Business Fair, the Southeast Queens Scoop and community organization Ca$h Da$h are proud to announce the upcoming “Rock Your Business! BLACK BUSINESS SUMMIT” — a high-energy event dedicated to Black economic empowerment, small business growth, and community-driven revitalization in Far Rockaway, Queens.

The summit is FREE will take place on Friday, November 14, 2025, at the Arverne East Coastal Conservation Center, located at 190 Beach 44th Street, from 10 AM to 3 PM. Innovative attendees are expected, including small business owners, new entrepreneurs, and community stakeholders.  Together with Southeast Queens Scoop — a highly Google-ranked digital community news platform with an average of 66,000 monthly views and a reach of more than 250,000 local readers — this event aims to create transformative connections for local businesses.

Led by Gail Johnson, Aiysha Simon, and Roni Anderson co-founders of Ca$h Da$h, the summit builds on their ongoing mission to strengthen Far Rockaway’s economic fabric through education, collaboration, and equitable development.

Co-Founder Gail Johnson weighs in on the goals of Rock Your business "We are not hosting an event, we are investing in the economy of our neighborhood.  We plan on empowering Black and BIPOC Entrepreneurs in Downtown Far Rockaway with Access to Capital, Legal Advice & Marketing Tools."

A Vision for Black Economic Power and Community Renewal

Far Rockaway, located on the southeastern tip of the Rockaway Peninsula, is home to a vibrant and diverse population of approximately 55,000 residents, of whom a majority identify as Black or African American and Latino. The community is rich in entrepreneurial talent but has historically faced challenges with investment access and small business infrastructure.

Today, Far Rockaway stands on the threshold of change — with new developments such as Arverne East and Downtown revitalization projects opening pathways for Black-owned and BIPOC-led businesses to thrive. The “Rock Your Business!” Summit taps directly into that momentum, bringing together local innovators, financial experts, and policy advocates to explore tangible strategies for growth and sustainability.

Ca$h Dash Co-founder Roni Anderson responded to the dynamic needs and concerns of the area by adding "We created this business expansion project to increase profitability among small minority-owned businesses in the Far Rockaway five towns area. It is a unique business district — a blend of blue-collar and economically challenged business zones comprised mostly of “Mom and Pop” store owners.  However, increased rents, ongoing construction, and the impact of COVID have slowed business growth and reduced foot traffic. The Business Summit aims to strengthen the community’s businesses and encourage greater business development. Alongside other partner organizations, we also want to boost local commerce by creating a fun initiative — a “cash mob” on National Small Business Saturday, the day after Black Friday — to help drive foot traffic and increase holiday shopping."

Why Is Far Rockaway The Epicenter Of Black Business Development?

Far Rockaway sits at the easternmost end of the Rockaway peninsula in Queens, anchored by an increasingly diverse and resilient community. The population has grown and shifted in recent years, with one report showing the broader Rockaway regions growth by roughly 8% from 2010 to 2020. Office of the New York State Comptroller In Far Rockaway specifically, the racial/ethnic makeup is approximately 43.6 % Black/African‐American, 27.0 % White, 12.3 % identifying two or more races, and 4.3 % Asian. Point 2 Homes Stat Atlas The median age is about 36, and the community features a majority‐renter housing market (about 70.7 % renter‐occupied) with approximately 29.3 % home‐ownership. Point 2 Homes

Kamau Austin, publisher of the dedicated Southeast Queens Scoop, digital news blog responded this way to the research of Far Rockaway, Queens, NYC.  "These dynamics signal both the rich potential and the unique challenges of economic development in Far Rockaway. This community bolsters strong cultural roots, high entrepreneurial energy, but also a need for connection, capital, mentorship and visibility. By centering Black and BIPOC‐owned businesses in this Summit, we aim to build both economic vitality and community equity. I'm proud and excited to contribute to the media coverage of this event!"

Co-founder Aiysha Simon sums it up
 "
I was born and raised in Far Rockaway, a beautiful place with amazing people, unfortunately a lot of times it's seems we've been forgotten out here. Far Rockaway has deficits in businesses that are by and for us.

There are some who are here and are invested in this community, however there are not nearly enough businesses that cater to, celebrate or support the very community they do business in. We need more resources to get and secure business here, more opportunities for growth for our existing businesses and more communal involvement in promoting and sustaining business here. The Black Business Summit aims to do all of the above!"

Author Max Miller Releases
New Self-Help Book
“Blame It on the Feel of Pain”
About Detangling From Past Pain

Get ready for a transformational journey toward inner peace as indie author Max W. Miller’s new self-help release, Blame It On The Feel Of Pain, inspires readers in a witty, down-to-earth book. Truth and compassion are foretold, using poetic frames called ‘The Wises,’ and the help of opinionated little emojis bringing laughter and thought-provoking conclusions throughout.

The author encourages her readers, whom she also calls partners, to stop wrestling with the hard knocks of the past. She expresses how voluntarily walking back into time precedes trauma healing. Confronting lingering pains is a step toward strength and hope for the future. ‘Blame It’ delves into the author’s life experiences, bringing to life the importance of using Full Circle Moments to find resolutions.

Throughout Blame It On The Feel Of Pain, the reader grows to understand through a unique interpretation that what we are destined to become grows out of the years we’ve already traveled. Further, our future hinges on how we address the pains of the past. Other expressions focus on how desires in the present are carved out of having a clear vision that old, lingering strongholds must be defeated. A history of suffering is a prerequisite for becoming fed up enough to demand enjoyment now!
