NEW SONG CALLS OUT DOCTORS WHO SEND BLACK PATIENTS HOME TO DIE

Nationwide -- A new song about the Coronavirus is infecting Black America with some very powerful, hard-hitting lyrics. The song, written and sung by a father whose own son was denied a test, hits home for thousands of Blacks in the U.S. and the UK that can relate to racial disparity and discrimination when it comes to being treated and even being tested for the virus.

The singer says in one verse:

Doctor doctor. I'm not feeling well.
He took my temperature and said he can tell.

Can you give me a test? He said you don't qualify.
He wrote a prescription and sent me home to die.

In another verse, he sings:

What does it mean to be self-quarantined?
I'm fighting something that can't be seen.

If I get infected or maybe you.
How we gonna tell who infected who?

NEW #SAVETHESALON FUND TO RAISE $2 MILLION FOR BLACK HAIRSTYLISTS

Nationwide -- The COVID-19 pandemic has been devastating to Black communities across the country, and the salons and barbershops at the center of these communities are suffering in unprecedented ways. Black hair salons and barbershops are the backbone of Black entrepreneurship in our communities. With mandatory salon closures across the country, these small businesses have lost all means of income. Financial support for them at this time is critical.

In order to help the stylist community stay afloat during these difficult times, Mayvenn, a Black-owned supplier and distributor of high quality beauty products, has launched their #SaveTheSalon campaign to raise money to provide $500 for stylists across the country via their GoFundMe page. Every $1M will help 2,000 stylists in need. Mayvenn's #SaveTheSalon campaign plans to raise at least $2M to provide $500 for 4,000 of their stylists.

"We recognize the overall cracks in our economic systems often put Black stylists into vulnerable positions, with or without COVID-19. Mayvenn is exploring not only how to support stylists in this difficult moment, but to be a better partner in the long term," says Diishan Imira, CEO and Founder of Mayvenn.

FATHERHOOD ADVOCATE PENS CHILDREN'S BOOKS THAT HELP PARENTS DISCUSS AHMAUD ARBERY CASE

Atlanta, GA --  Kenneth Braswell, Atlanta-based CEO of Fathers Incorporated, has authored two children's books, Daddy, There's a Noise Outside and Daddy Can I Cry? to specifically help parents talk with their children about sensitive issues such as losing friends to gun violence, police brutality and the resulting protests that are a natural occurrence to a majority of these issues.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and another reminder for African Americans, their mental health is in a constant state of threat. The horrific incident of Ahmaud Arbery and the trauma inflicted through the viral video on top of the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting economic downturn have negatively affected many people's mental health and created new barriers for people already suffering from mental illness. In a recent KFF poll, nearly half (45%) of adults in the United States reported that their mental health has been negatively impacted due to worry and stress over the virus.

Following the Black Lives Matter movement in 2016, parents, educators and librarians around the world have been looking for ways to talk to children about race, justice, and privilege.
