Ironically, they resort to committing fraud to make their dream a reality. Creator Bobby Ashley describes the web series as HBO’s “The Wire” meets modern-day urban Brooklyn.
In her Pix 11 News coverage, Kirstin Cole writes “The Ave shows how Ashley uses his homegrown talent to discuss the creativity coming out of Brownsville. The twenty-three-year-old college graduate series portrays his community in a different light with its complex characters, confronting difficult issues and news headlines”.

Black Wall Street (BWS), a nonprofit dedicated to increasing the number of minority and underserved entrepreneurs who successfully grow scalable businesses, today announced the return of its signature event, Black Wall Street: Homecoming. The three-day series of conference programming and networking events will take place October 11-13 at various venues in Downtown Durham.

The Black Wall Street: Homecoming week will feature highlights such as the Google for Entrepreneurs Black Founders Exchange Program and the first BWS: Boot Camp for idea and early-stage entrepreneurs. Hosted by American Underground, The Exchange is a week-long immersion program for pre-selected teams, focused on addressing the documented funding gap for startups led by Black founders. Led by Kezia Williams of the Black upStart, the BWS: Boot Camp will guide entrepreneurs on how to start a successful, profitable business. Application information for the boot camp will be announced in late August.

Bishop Curry is a 10-year old 5th grader from McKinney, Texas, and he's also the inventor of a prototype device that is designed to prevent children from dying in hot cars. His lifesaving device is called Oasis, and it attaches to children's car seats. If it senses that a child has been left behind in the seat, it will start to blow out cool air until the child is rescued.

In this exchange, instructor Avi Avramcheyiv, the founder and chief instructor of NY Self Defense Academy demonstrates how to confront an attacker armed with a gun.
In light of the recent rapes in Richmond Hill and Jamaica, Senator James Sanders Jr. (D-Rochdale Village, Far Rockaway) held a Sexual Assault Defense Training workshop on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at Holy Unity Baptist Church in Jamaica.

The event aimed to educate community members on how to protect themselves from becoming the victim of a sexual assault. Information on resources for survivors including support services, counseling, and legal rights were also presented. Some 60 people participated in the program, which was similar to a training Senator Sanders held in April 2016 in recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

Thousands of people lined the streets and packed the beach for the 1st ever Rockaway Caribbean Carnival, which was hosted by State Senator James Sanders (D-Rochdale Village, Far Rockaway) and held on Saturday, August 19, 2017. There were parade floats, costumed masqueraders, steel pan bands, moko jumbies, calypso and soca music, traditional foods, clothing and crafts and much more.
 
“For many years, people having been toying with the idea of bringing a Caribbean Carnival to Rockaway, but we have done it,” Sanders said. “My team along with residents, leaders and multiple organizations worked hand in glove to make this amazing day possible. It is a day when we can celebrate all cultures – Caribbean and American – those from Rockaway and those from all over this great city and state. Out of many, we are one. That's the motto of Trinidad -- together we aspire, together we achieve.”
